Will the decisions be released online or snail mail or both? I did not find any guidance. "Decisions regarding University admission status will be released during the week of December 16"

Ask admissions. I suspect both only because last month D saw her USC grad school acceptance online before got mail. But when younger D (jr at USC) was applying, she received snail mail - although it wasn’t first choice so maybe it was online and she didn’t check :)

But if you’re hoping for a “check your account at midnight” type situations, just call admissions and ask - or post question on admissions fb page - sure lots of students would like to know as well.

BTW - son of a friend in upstate SC received his acceptance today!

My son received his acceptance in the mail yesterday. The postage stamp was dated 12/13/13. We are in Upstate SC.

A girl from my high school in upstate SC also received her acceptance letter the other day.

In the past, they would ONLY release decisions via snail mail. Even if your decision got lost in the mail and you called, they’d only re-send the letter via snail mail and wouldn’t release it over the phone. Not sure if that’s changed with the new My.sc.edu system.

Thanks for the update. We will watch the mail this week.

Seems like a huge waste of paper and $. Why not mail Acceptances only and inform everyone online (accept, decline, defer)? I heard of this thing called the Information Super Highway that maybe able to help USC with this last stage of the process! (sarcasm, no need to reply)

The online app has worked well, so there must be other reasons.

Good luck to all.

Perhaps it’s tradition?

USC was the only school that I’ve seen that actually sends out a special envelope for acceptance each year. I had friends whose parents received the exact envelope that I received. (It has a big Gamecock with a YES! on the outside- You don’t even need to open the letter to know you’ve been accepted.)

Also, as you can see with Fordham (and other schools each year), it’s very easy to “accidentally” admit more students than what you’re supposed to.

Is there a way to check online or do you have to wait for the snail mail?

We are in Northern NJ and my son got his Acceptance Package today!!
It shows mailed on 12/13 as well.
So excited to be part of Gamecock country!!

We are in Charlotte, NC and my son got his acceptance over the weekend (WooooHooo!)

My daughter just got her acceptance letter and is very excited, she is in love with this school. Do Merit Awards come separately or should we have received some indication with the acceptance letter?

/\ My freshman d was admitted early admission this time last year and I believe that the merit scholarship came around February or March…she is also in Capstone and that letter came in March , but we cant remember if the scholarship letter came the same week or a little before. Congratulations!! My d loves USC. She just finished off an excellent first semester and has no complaints at all!

My daughter got her acceptance package today as well. Odd it actually didn’t get here sooner since we’re only down in Charleston. Based on our rather inconsistent mailman, I am becomingly increasingly convinced he skips houses every other day (plus he likes to deliver other people’s mail to me). Such a frustrating thing during acceptance season!

While CofC is daughter’s first choice right now, USC is her close second. It may come down to merit scholarships. Anxiously awaiting that letter!

Daughter just got her acceptance today as well - biomedical engineering. She is still weighing her options of where she wants to go but my son, who is a freshman there now is trying to heavily persuade her to go to USC! (they are only a year apart in age, so very close). Now we wait for the scholarship letter, probably til March if it’s like last year.

Congrats to everyone who has gotten acceptances! My D just finished her first semester and while things didn’t go quite as expected, she loves USC and has been selected as orientation leader for 2014! She is very excited to meet new students and share her passion for the university with them!

Re OOS scholarship hopes. Last year my D was accepted early this same week last year. A week later she got a letter that said while it was not a formal scholarship offer, she would at least qualify for McKissick. Best Christmas present ever as USC was her first choice. Comparing notes with several other parents of now-Freshman, it seems that if you were above the numbers they posted as qualifications, you got the early letter. But we did talk to others who didn’t get the early letter and then later got a scholarship during formal notification in Feb/Mar. So if they do like last year - you might get that early letter if the SAT’s and grades are solid. BTW, not a scientific sample but from the others I’ve heard getting scholarships, it seems SAT’s/ACT’s are greater weight than grades.

Coleman 4…Congratulations on your daughter’s acceptance!!! I am sure that your son is trying to talk her into USC! My daughter is doing the same with my junior daughter who is now beginning her search for a college offering nursing as well!

Thanks NJMOM3! My son also had a very good semester in fact, much better than he ever did in high school (academically). I wonder if our 2 have talked or even met each other yet, both being in a few classes together. I asked him and he wasn’t sure (so many girls in his classes LOL).

For all you newly accepted parents /students, something to keep in mind for later USC has a summer program that is optional- called Pillars, which is an overnight (~5 nights) ‘pre-freshman’ orientation program that is a great way to get to know people, the area, and the campus before school starts. My son did it and he is still friends with several of the freshman he met during that time In fact, 2 of his 3 roommates from their apartment next year were also in the program.

/\ Coleman 4… Glad your son had a great semester too! I asked the same thing (if they had met)…she said there’s a couple of guys, but I’m not sure which ones she has talked to…As you know, at first I was pretty concerned with the whole indirect admit to nursing thing, however, now I am thinking that it is really keeping them motivated and on their toes. It might not be such a bad thing after all. I continuously ask my d if she regrets not doing direct and I get an adamant "no, not at all " each time. She enjoyed all her teachers this semester.
