Early Decision Admissions

How do you know an interview puts you with 50/50 odds?

at least they are giving you a chance to get to know you better, they want to know more about you if you would be a good fit. do you think they will waste their time talking to someone , they know they are going to reject them. otherwise they are no interviews in the app process they can just go with their instinct. what do you think then.

In my experience, they only offer interviews to students who are very much in danger of rejection. Though, there’s something redemptive about their recent academic performance, work history, life situation, etc.

It’s not 50/50 because of an interview. I wouldn’t give that stat any weight.

oh really that’s good to know then. It just seems like some of the people here who were called in for an interview then got accepted. then I just don’t know what to expect. I applied by april 1st. so now is mid april two more weeks of waiting. so then even I don’t get a call from the office would that mean there is still might be a chance that I might be accepted right, not rejected.

Has anyone heard of any students that have received acceptance with lower than a 3.7 GPA? and do they still send out acceptance calls/letters 2 weeks prior to May 1st?.. I figure no one would actually know this, but just wondering…

So hellojan, in your opinion receiving an interview should be viewed more as a cause for concern? Do most that you know become rejected after receiving one? Thank you for all your help.

Not necessarily. I’d say that, from my own limited experience, those invited to interview are often asked to make a case for their own admission. “Given the inconsistencies in your academic record, what makes you a good applicant for admission…”

But let me reiterate, my experience if pretty limited.

I received my acceptance letter to Columbia University GS on April 15th. Woohoo! I got my application in by March 1, but I took my GSAE exam on March 28th. I got my acceptance letter on the 15th via FedEx.

I just spent a day on campus today walking around. Lewisohn Hall is really beautiful, as is the whole campus. Made me even more excited to matriculate in the fall!

Sounds like a lot of us will hear news this week either way…(ulcer continues to grow)

Do you think Jkolt?
I haven’t heard anything so far and I am really anxious to know what will happen (just like everone else)… Is anybody here an international transfer student and if so, did you hear anything so far? I know that our deadline was April 1st although I submitted mine at the beginning of March! Just want to know if someone has gotten a decision yet! Thanks!!!

I had an interview last week on the 14th and I got a call this morning saying that I was accepted. I’m charming and extremely handsome, so I had a bit of an advantage. But anyways, it’s not the end of the world if you haven’t heard anything yet. I think they’re saving the best for last.

I am international student and I submitted everything on April 1st. I called today to clear some other things and I did ask them about the processing time they said for international student is actually 6 to 8 weeks so , I am guessing I won’t hear back from them until mid of May.

People, give me a shout when you come to campus. I’ll be happy to show you around.

I’m an International Student too but since I couldn’t submit the application by April 1, I was told by the Director of Admission that I can apply June 1…do yoou think is it possible? I’m worried…

well if that’s what they told you I would think it’s OK then. I submitted everything on the 1st and paid the app fee on the 7th. But after reading some thread I just think that the earlier you apply the better. so good luck on that. And for other international student please let me know when you hear from them I am anxiously waiting for the result and time just goes by slowly.

xthuglifex…that has to be the funniest post I have read on this thread

What do you mean by"the earlier you apply the better"? Do you think there are less chances if I submit the application few days before the deadline?

no, it’s just some info I learnd after reading some of the thread on this website. some people say that when you apply for ED you have more chance of getting in. not sure if that applies to international students.I am pretty miserable at this point cause I don’t know how they will view the international students apps. Right now I am just trying not to think about it too much.

Has anyone received an interview and NOT heard anything? It seems like the last few weeks were used for the early admission interviews…
