Thanks for those details. Do you think they will post when they are mailed?

They did (again last year). They posted that letters were in the mail both on their Twitter feed and on Facebook.

Okay thanks for that info! I hope they post that they are in the mail soon!

The waiting is so hard, isn’t it? My son is a '17. He applied ED and was deferred. He was so disappointed and a little surprised given he had backing from athletics (he’s a golfer) but was accepted RD. So joke that he just worked a little harder to get to Bates. He absolutely loves everything about being a Bobcat! I hope you hear good news. Keep us posted.

I am an international applicant. I was informed that I would be email the decision beside receiving a snail mail? Do you guy know when will I receive that email? Bates is my SUPER TOP dream school!! I really hope I could get in

I called admissions office and asked when they anticipate mailing the letters for EDI. The lady who answered the telephone replied “they anticipate mailing them by the end of next week.” I commented “then the applicants will likely not know by Friday” and she said “correct”. Hummmmmm…

I also noticed that the other nescac schools notify by mid December or by December 15. I wonder why Bates is not lining up with the other nescac schools with a mid December notification for EDI.

You all need to relax. I know it’s agonizing but you’ll know when you know. Bates is under no obligation to line up their admissions dates with the other NESCAC schools, nor are they obligated to keep applicants up to the minute on their notification date. You should all be happy that admissions is doing a thorough review of each applicant in order to build the best, most balanced class. If it takes a little longer than the other schools, then so be it.

If your child happens to be admitted to Bates, consider the admissions process fair warning. Your child will not receive their roommate assignment until August, even though most other schools do that much earlier. They also will not register for classes until later than most other schools. Bates does things according to their own schedule and that’s one of the things that makes it such a cool place to be.

Agree, it’s a mighty fine school. We are very much anticipating the day D finally gets her snail mail decision. But, because we are postponing our holiday travel until whenever it arrives, our family is not loving the ‘unique schedule’ thing.

We were on pins and needles much longer vs (it seemed) everyone else so I know how you feel. It’s worth it though.

Warning, more grumbling ahead. Thanks y’all for letting me vent here.

Haverford realized there wasn’t time left this week for all their decisions to arrive by the promised Dec. 15 deadline, so they unexpectedly emailed ED decisions yesterday. I sure hope Bates will do likewise if they are indeed going to miss their promised “received by Dec. 20” deadline.

Niceday,
I’ll keep you in my thoughts for hearing earlier rather than later.

Most colleges and universities will give a very conservative date verbally for notifications because they are making sure they can deliver on the date. When one of my kids went through this process with Univ. of Notre Dame, it was exactly the same – admissions giving a very conservative late date…and my child received the acceptance letter actually 2 week before that date. Sigh…

Hopefully your child will hear early next week too… I’ll keep my fingers crossed for an earlier date rather than later. (for our family too - I have a D for EDI to Bates)
Sigh again…

No time for relaxing if we need to help our children go into full speed to submit other applications if they get turned down, or deferred from Bates College— all during the holiday season.
Sigh…

I’m sending you positive thoughts that all will be complete soon.

I too will hope it comes earlier. I think all we can do now is wait and hope. Hopefully they will tweet when they mail the letters if not when they plan on mailing the letters because this will give us a better idea of when it will come.

For all we know the letters were mailed when they sent out their tweet about them coming by the 20th and we will find them in our mailboxes tomorrow!

Do you think the letters will be mailed today?

Maybe someone should call and ask when letters are going in the mail and see what they say!

The wait is killing me so I better not have to wail till Friday to get the letter!

I am dying for the result. I am an international student, so they said that they would email me the result in addition to the snail mail. I do not know when will they send the email. Hope that will be a acceptance letter

So I just called and they said the letters have yet to been mailed and they could be mailed as late as the 20th. This means we won’t necessarily hear back by the 20th. This sucks cause I am going away on the 20th so if they mail it then then I might not know for a while.

A different anxious and waiting person should call everyday and ask if they have been mailed as otherwise we may never know because the lady I talked to on the phone said they will not email when they have been mailed. Forgot to ask if they will tweet when mailed. Hope they do. I feel as though I shouldn’t call again. So who wants to call tomorrow and ask?

Last year was the same so I’m guessing you will hear on the 20th and letters will be mailed out the 18th. For my son’s class, they did tweet that letters were on their way so pay attention to Twitter and to FB.

I’m so sorry - I know how hard this is.

I am glad to hear that about last year. That gives me a little more hope! I will also keep a look out on the Facebook and twitter not that I haven’t already been (I have been checking everyday for the last week).

It’s just annoying that almost all my friends who applied early somewhere have already heard. I wish bates had a decision date of the 15th like lots of other schools.

^^ We did too. If you’re not accepted or deferred, there’s not much time to get other applications going. I’ll hope for the best for you!

I know. My mom keeps telling me to work on other apps but like I don’t want to till I hear back from bates. If I don’t get in these next two weeks won’t be fun as I am gonna have a ton of essays to write and schools to apply too

guys! apparently they sent out the letters today!! this is according to the bates website itself.
