East Quad or North Quad? I need to choose!

So I signed my housing contract for a double in a quad suite in North Quad. I'm an incoming junior transfer, so I liked the idea of having an all-upperclassmen dorm. However, I have a friend with a single in East Quad, and she wants to swap.

My question is, I know North Quad is nicer, but would I be smart to go for a single rather than having to share a quad with three other girls? I'm really drawn to the idea of living in East Quad with a single. I know there would be a lot of freshmen and sophomores but I don't really care I guess.

So anyway, any advice on which is better: nicer dorm, more roommates or slightly less nice dorm, benefits of a single room? Should I stay in my original contract or swap with her?

Please help! I only have a couple days to tell my friend what I decided.

I’d stick with North Quad. East Quad is a dump and North Quad is a palace.

Dear god, stay in North Quad. It’s freaking amazing compared to East Quad/Couzens/South Quad. I kinda wish I lived there instead of off-campus during my last year.

Are you sure she is your friend? ;)

I would stick to North Quad.

If you want to stay with the nerds and with no connection to the Central Campus, stay North Quad. If you want a dining hall in close proximity (in your building), nice people, and centrality, go South Quad.

Statlanta your ignorance is pretty astounding. First off, You aren’t even a student of the University yet, so I don’t understand how you can make subjective claims. Second, North Quad is on central campus.

definitely stay in NQ. The food there is the best out of all the other dining halls.

haha - also, statlanta, north quad has it’s own dining hall.

OP - i had a single in EQ last year, and i’ve signed up for another year in a single there. it’s not too shabby, and the people are really nice. if the single is in the H, then you’ll probably get a sink. if it’s in the O, then you won’t. something to keep in mind…

The NQ is located on the old site of the Frieze Building. If that isn’t on central campus, I don’t know what is.

I think it depends on how desperately you want that single. I would choose a single no matter what. However, I lived in EQ as a junior transfer (in a double) and it was pretty isolating. I was the only upperclassman in my hall, and it made a much bigger difference than I had been led to believe it would.

If you’re not the kind of person who absolutely cannot stand being around people, I’d really stay at NQ-- that sounds like a setup even I would be willing to consider. You say you don’t care now, but you probably will mind not being around more upperclassmen later. It’s very lonely living that way, and I think people underestimate the typical maturity difference between freshmen and juniors. You’re going to have a hard enough time finding your niche as an incoming junior, no need to make it any harder unless you REALLY want that single.
