EC Question (Very Successful Business)

Hi,

I will be applying to UCLA, UCSD, UCSB, and UCB.

Whether you believe it or not, in my high school career, I have been running a business which has brought in 6 figures to date.

GPA: 3.7 (4 AP’s, 3 Honors)
ACT: 32

I’m not asking you to chance me. I am just wondering, If I plan on going into a business major, will my business help me greatly in admissions? Obviously, there are others factors, but I am just wondering in general. My GPA is lower because of my business.

Starting a business which makes money is definitely a good EC to have but you have to remember you are applying to colleges where academics are #1. If your GPA is lower due to your EC, then you will not be given a break since you made the choice to put more effort into your EC than your HS courses.

it is a solid EC but UCs are really GPA focused. While i encourage you to apply to all the UCs that interest you, SDSU and CSULB both have great biz programs and are very likely to accept you.

UCLA, UCSD only have bus. econ. majors, no business per se. UCSB has only an econ accounting program. UCB has an undergraduate business school and you would apply to Haas in your sophomore year. I believe the same with UCLA and UCSB for applying to the bus/acctg econ, but a little less competitive than UCB Haas Business School.

As responded above, while your business is viewed as an EC, you will still need high stats to first get into the mentioned schools before applying for bus. econ. or Haas.
