Economics at ucla

How hard/competitive is the economics major at UCLA relative to UCSB? How hard is the accounting minor? Is it hard to get above a 3.8 average in those classes? Also, which would you suggest is less competitive/easier: Economics or Business Economics?

Thanks in advance for any helpful replies.

Considering you need to petition to be admitted into the BizEcon major (3.3 GPA and no grade lower than a C in the pre-req’s) I’d say BizEcon is the more competitive out of the two (Econ/BizEcon).

Thx for that.

anyone else got any insightful words?

Accounting minor is 3.2 minimum, but I think the average is 3.5ish just to get in. 3.8average is doable, plan your schedule right. echoing Bru1nDynasty, Bizecon is by far the tougher one, and you should also note it’s not a “business”-like major.

The only thing that makes Bizecon more “competitive” is the application process to get into the major. That’s it. No big deal. After you get into one or the other, the competitiveness is pretty much the same, since there’s a lot of overlap in classes.

Accounting classes can range from easy to difficult, depending on the professor. I would think that if you’re taking mostly Ravetch/Klein classes, it would be way harder to get the 3.8 avg than if you take classes from a mix of professors.

i am also curious about the OP’s first question
