Hey guys I'm a sophomore right now in high school and I was wondering if anyone could list the best schools for an economics Major? Price and location aren't a problem and I plan to get an MBA as well in grad school. Thanks!

I can tell you truthfully that I don’t know the BEST universities for economics. That being said, I have information that will help you. I started college as a pre-music education student; it fell through because performance standards for the auditions were high. I was good; they wanted great. Anyways, I briefly considered an economics major before deciding on business administration. I chose not to go with economics because there’s a very good chance I will never attend grad school. So for me the BSBA degree was my best option.

It is great that you will not be burdened with debt. I have only attended public in-state schools, namely, Ball State and IU. I strongly urge you…attend a public university for your undergrad (trust me you will thank me later). For example, if you live in California you should attend a University of California campus. If you live in New Jersey, go to Rutgers. If you live in Mississippi then attend some college like Delta State. etc. etc. Use the savings from that to help pay for the MBA if you must go to a private college at that point. Columbia University or Northwestern University would be excellent choices as private schools go.

For grad school you spoke about getting your MBA. That is not a bad idea, but you have options. You could stick with that route or you could get a master’s degree in economics if consulting or teaching is more your style. Economics is a great field; I have taken only two economics classes but they have helped me explain business issues through the use of supply and demand graphs.

Most importantly though, chill. You are still a teenager with a couple years before you can attend college. There’s no telling what could happen during that time. You might keep the same plans or choose to do something else. Believe me I have had classmates who are the type of people who burnout (not academically but psychologically) because they can’t keep calm. They are a drag to be in class with, they flip out over B+ grades, people try to help them and they never listen. You don’t want to end up like that. Those people are very unhappy.

Good luck to you.

Thanks for the advice BlueEyedGuy2015
