Sorry if this is the wrong area to post, there is no UH forum.

Anyways to cut to the chance i am currently a Econ major at UH with about 76hrs, now that Im close to graduating Im worried that i will not find a good job with an econ degree, the business school at UH is ranked #40 by us news and has active recruitment. I am thinking about switching to finance, because they have a degree plan which focuses on building a professional vs econ is mostly academic... so if I switch I will lose about 34hrs which would suck big time but i suppose would be worth it if land a better job, the other option is to finish my econ degree in go for a Masters in finance at UH or somewhere else. Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Really depends what occupation you want to pursue. If you want to go into energy finance or investment banking, then yes, transfer into the business school. If you just want to use your economics degree to work for the government, non-profit, or be a research assistant at any company that will take you, then just stay with econ.

If you want to work at a financial services company, I would not advise you to graduate and go directly into graduate school. You would have zero experience and basically be applying for management positions. It’s like this, if you get your masters in finance, then apply to associate positions at investment banks, what good would you be with no management, modeling, or pitch book creation experience? If I were you, I’d get an internship and start networking with some alum to at least have some type of job you can fall back on.
