ED 1 Applicant Thread

@smileyg does that include TX? Also, what do you mean they sent out the wrong letters? Like they sent out rejections/deferences to the people who were supposed to get acceptances? or vice versa?

Congratulations to you lucky ones that have received their letters and been accepted! I haven’t gotten my letter yet and I was wondering if those of you that were accepted ( @serendipity14 or @Penelope654 ) would mind sharing you scores and extracurriculars and such! You totally don’t have to, but it would be awesome if you did!

@CallyCally23, I think I’ll wait a bit more to post my stats. Just to maintain everyone’s peace of mind :)

For those of you who are confused, pomona itself did not send the wrong letters. The post office had a mix up with all of the holiday mail and everything that caused them to send the letters to the wrong places.

@seniorhighschool There shouldn’t be anything wrong with the acceptances or denials. It’s just that the letters themselves got sent to the wrong places.

wow way to go USPS, proving my point that online portals are the way to go. I called the admissions today, and they told me that they mailed a bunch of people today in the morning, and that it will reach many students by wednesday. Online portals are the way to go, especially due to the increasing number of applicants

Accepted today in Minnesota! :slight_smile: Good luck to everyone else!

@Pomona2018, Join the Facebook group if you have a Facebook! :)

@serendipity14 already joined it :)

Haha I just realized half of the people in the fb group are current students.
It’s gonna be hard to distinguish actual 2018ers from others :P

I guess we’ll have to figure things out as we go along :P

@classof2018app they only mailed some people THIS morning?!?

@classof2018app are those exclusively rejections???

No they are not all rejections. Rejections and acceptances are being sent at the same time. They saw a 40 percent increase in applicants this year, and they were not prepared for it I guess. With the Common App extension for the deadline, they had a lot less time with a lot more applicants. Since Pomona is a liberal arts school, they spend more than 30 minutes on each applicant, which is a lot (Berkeley spends 5 minutes at most). After the forbes ranking, they were recognized on a national scale, which is why they saw such a large increase in their applicants. The guy on the phone said that most students have not received their letters yet. On this forum, only about 10 people have said that they have been accepted. Go figure. Btw, can some of you who have been accepted just reserve this for results and not for Facebook groups? Many of us will be rejected and it just feels like you’re showing off. Just saying…

deferred in texas

If I don’t get my letter tomorrow, I am going to call admissions and ask for their decision for me lol

Hey guys, I’m reside in Milwaukee, Wisconsin and haven’t received my letter yet. By the way the mail man just stopped by. Anyone else in the midwest/anywhere in this situation?

@whoacollegeyeah I live in California and I still haven’t received my letter yet so I don’t think you should be worried.

@smileyg Ah, thanks for the reassurance. Has anyone tried calling them?

I called them today. They told me over the phone that I was deferred. The person who I was talking to was the same person that read my app and the final say. She said she enjoyed my essays ( I don’t know if she was sugar coating it :slight_smile: ). She also said that I have a higher chance of acceptance going into RD. I am actually happy because I thought I was going to get rejected, since I don’t have any hooks such as athleticism and extremely high test scores.
