This wait is eating me. I actually dreamt about it last night.

7 and a half to go now?

Same here, Waterboy. And I’m also highly discouraged because Yale-NUS deferred me D: At least now I don’t have my hopes up so it’ll be less of a blow.
Also, not sure of the exact time. I think 4 hours or so left, though?

DECISIONS ARE OUT.

And I was deferred.

DECISIONS OUT! ACCEPTED!!!

Deferred.

Accepted!!

I’m really sorry Someone007 and spacehilbert, I feel guilty for how excited I am

@Someone007 and @spacehilbert remember that getting back up after you fall is what matters most. Have faith and do your best on the other apps!

Noooo, don’t be, @Waterboy11 !! You should genuinely be bursting with happiness and excitement because Amherst is an amazing institution where you’ll spend the next four years and get to meet a bunch of wonderful people such as yourself c: Nobody here’s bitter, or at least I like to believe so, because at the end of the day we’ve all gone down the same road and there’s something very satisfying about knowing that someone’s hard work has paid off. This is a kind of reassurance that somewhere, sometime, we’ll get our turns too.

I’m trying to look at it from a brighter side - at one point, I was hoping to get deferred from Amherst and accepted to Yale-NUS so that I wouldn’t be binded and I could attend the other college instead. I guess it didn’t really play out as well seeing as both deferred me, but at least this way I can apply to the other colleges on my list (which are like, 15, cheers for all the international students in need of a full ride), find the best match for me and not have to treat a severe case of buyer’s remorse. And hey, who knows, maybe I still have a shot in the regular pool!

PS: Editing this to mention @Squashie as well. Thanks! And good luck to the both of you - keep us updated from time to time :3

Deferred as well.

@Someone007 Hi5! International applicant here too (and also seeking FA). Am optimistically guessing they are expecting more people from my pool to compare with etc. (well that does not really seem optimistic haha but anyhow :P)

Thanks @Squashie and @Waterboy11, and congratz! Don’t feel guilty, because you deserve the place for all the hard work you have put in. Thinking of attending school at an awesome place like Amherst, I feel excited for y’all, too! As for myself, the bright side is being released from the ED binding, and I consider it another chance for me to choose where I will fit well in and be happy at. I’m sort of in a dilemma. Open curriculum is really a hook (why Amherst is awesome haha), because I crave to try many things and do so freely, but I’m also drawn to very ‘techy’ schools which tend not to have that… ><.

Best wishes to all, for RD round or for life in Amherst.

@spacehilbert I’ve PMed you

Also, do the accepted Jeffs mind posting their stats so that the future applicants can better chance themselves?

Hi Guys,
I am an international ed applicant from India, and I too got deferred. I was just wondering if any International applicant got accepted…

I was accepted! I’ll post my stats because I know how helpful that was for me this summer when I was creeping on college confidential.
ACT: 30 (32 R 32 S 24 M 32 E) 9 on the essay
GPA/Class Rank: 3.87/4 and 7/125 (definitely had some Bs in my career)
Extra Curriculars: Varsity Cross Country and Track and Field for 5 years, 2 years Varsity Swimming, Chemistry Club, Honor Society, Volunteering at Public Library and Local Museum, Speech and Debate, Pro-Start Management Team Captain
Awards: No fancy academic awards only things like local honor roll and sports awards.
Essay: Pretty unique in my opinion I took a creative approach and made it poetic rather than straight to the point.
Supplement: Was not very proud of it. Good subject matter but my writing was lacking. Wrote about the overcoming difficulty prompt.
Recs: Obviously I dont know what they said but both were teachers I had a good relationship with. Also two teachers in subjects I struggled with (Chem and Math) and I think that might have helped?
All in all, I want all you prospective students or people considering application to know that you don’t have to have a perfect ACT/SAT score, be president of 10 clubs, or have tons of amazing awards to get into Amherst. Do your best to highlight what makes you a unique person and really let them know who you really are it can work miracles. Personality is so important! Still cant believe I am in its so surreal.

Another international here who got deferred @Squashie Congratulations man!!!

international- deferred as well… gotta go write 10 more essays i guess lolol

congratulations to all of you who got in!!! have a great 4 years!

@Asad876 thanks so much, but I glanced over you stats in another thread (sorry) and they are pretty amazing. You should, IA get into an HYP. Best of luck for RD!

@asab19 international applicant from a country neighbouring yours. Was accepted
