ED class of 2022 discussion

Some info about Dr. Polites-he is a WashU alum (undergraduate degree in Biology) and is head of the Emergency Medicine department at Barnes-Jewish Hospital. Part 2 of the MedPrep class (open to sophomores and above) has students shadowing at the hospital.

@hamurtle thank you for all the information. Does your son like it at Washington University? This is one of my top choices.

@aleg he loves the school-it was his first choice out of high school. Lots of opportunities there and he is being intellectually stimulated and challenged. Then again he has the odd combination of the Biology/History double major as a pre-med, so he gets to explore different perspectives (hard sciences and social sciences).

Freshmen have the opportunity to do research and he is registered for a class next semester called Phage Informatics. Something involving sequencing the DNA of a bacterial phage that was isolated by researchers.

For those concerned about not receiving an email from a professor, have no fear! I did not receive one of those, either, and I ended up getting a full tuition merit scholarship to WashU. It’s great if you get one, but I really don’t think they have much bearing on admissions.

Hi! I am an ED applicant to WUSTL class of 2022 as a Physics major… can anyone tell me if the decisions are rolling? or all decisions be released on December 15? I know this is very different for different colleges… I have been attempting to show as much interest as possible, as my grades are not stellar… Many phone calls/emails, Campus visit/tour, etc.

@Jjlghv73 All decisions are released at the same time, and they will be released by the latest on December 15. Historically they have been released earlier than the designated date.

Just curious how they let students know that decisions are ready. Do they send an email saying so with no other announcement of which day it’ll be? Do they tweet about the day they will announce? Or post the day for decisions some other way other than saying it’s Dec. 15?

@Winky1 there will be an email to applicants announcing that decisions have been made and the online portal has been updated.

I am sticking by 12/8 as the official date decisions have been made/announced.

Thanks @Hamurtle!

Yes thank you. It’s great to heat this information from someone who has gone through the Washington application system already. @Hamurtle

Hello! My DD came home from school today saying that one of her classmates heard from Wash U today (it was a no for him). Has anyone else heard anything? She checked and did not receive anything yet. She applied ED but wasn’t sure if her classmate did.

I didn’t hear anything today? @colscook was it by email?

@edsmart - miscommunication by my DD! Her friend at school did not hear today but he had talked to people that had heard (it seems to be the athletes). Rather infuriatingly, she did not probe any further so I don’t know if they heard by email, phone call, or portal. I’ll see if she can find out more tomorrow.

@colscook thank you!

Thanks for the information, @colscook ! My D has nothing new on her portal, for what it’s worth.

At some schools athletes submit their transcripts and scores and are given some indication as to whether or not they meet the requirements to get in. We had this with our older son who applied to a small LAC and got the “thumbs up” and then was admitted ED.

Wash U is D3, not sure if that matters in how information is disseminated.

Many D3 schools do pre-reads. We experienced this with 5 schools that were interested in him.

Not likely that WashU would give a decision this early.

Would concur that it was likely an athlete-son’s school had someone recruited for softball last year and she committed in November before ED decisions were out.
