Hello, I’m really stressed and trying to figure out whether or not I should apply to BU EDII, with my stats, would you say I’d have a fair shot of making it in or should I just not sweat it and opt for RD?
GPA: 4.3 (weighted, IB diploma student)
SAT: 1320 (hoping to make up for it with higher IB scores)
Your SAT is about 100 points lower than BU’s average, but ED might help out with that. IB and GPA help. You didn’t provide a lot of info, but you should apply EDII ONLY if you can afford full price (ED applicants don’t get good aid) and BU is your number 1 choice no matter what. You have to be prepared to drop every other app if you get a yes.
One should run BU’s net price calculator (NPC) to get an estimated COA. Note the NPCs may not be accurate if parents are divorced, own a business, or have significant real estate assets.
This is not true. BU meets 100% of an applicant’s need regardless of admission round. An applicant’s need is defined by BU, using CSS Profile information. BU offers primarily need-based aid, with fewer students receiving merit aid.
@Mwfan1921 I’m talking merit aid, because a lot of the time EFCs are higher than what families can afford and financial aid doesn’t always cover everything. Also, BU does not meet 100% need, in 18-19 they met 84% of full time undergrad need. https://www.bu.edu/oir/files/2019/04/cds-2019-H.pdf
@Mwfan1921 Again, it says “It is the total cost of attending BU minus your family’s expected contribution, as calculated by filing the FAFSA and CSS Profile.” A ton of EFCs are too high, mine was about double what my family could actually pay. So sometimes need isn’t always met or judged correctly.
I think it would be a good idea for you to apply ED2 to BU, but just be sure to do your research because it helps you have good material for your essays and such.
