I'm ED 1...shall we post stats too?

ED I here, if I ever stop procrastinating and get my app together.

I vote to leave stats out so we can avoid competitiveness and be fully encouraging of each other - hopefully we'll all get in, eh?

edit: I'm MackBat818 on AIM. I'd love to talk to all y'all Swat hopefuls.

does swat want the supplement for ED I to be postmarked by nov 1st?

To yile: yes, they do, but I think that as long as it is in by the ED I application deadline (Nov. 15) they will still accept it. Also, I seriously recommend doing it through the Common App website if you are doing CA Online for your app, it made it a LOT easier for me and it formats everything up nicely so you can submit online.

I'm also applying ED I.

They want the supplement earlier, but I think it does not have to include the "Why Swat?" essay (which is the only part that could be hard to finish by then). At least that's how it was for RD.

Nowhere on their website or the common app's does it say that they want the supplement by November 1st. Where did you get that info?

i don't think it's required but i think they want it so that they can start building a portfolio on you and stuff like that

Good luck everyone. A successful ED I feels wonderful. :P

Ah, grazi for the heads up. I've had it ready for a little while now, but I'm OCDing about sending it because I know the second I do, I'll find something wrong with it that I'll want to change.

P.S. Thanks, arador!

To eclipse0: hmm. You are absolutely right that it doesn't say anywhere on the website that the supplement is due tomorrow (indeed, the supplement itself says due November 15), but I am 100% sure I read that somewhere earlier. Oh well.

Is anyone else officially freaking out about applying now? Becuase I seriously sat in class today filling out safety school apps because I was so worried.

At least your freaking out translates into actually doing work.

I just keep procrastinating. Argh.

So why did you all decide to apply ED to Swat?

I'm applying ED I to Swat... I just mailed out my application today, in fact : ) As for why I decided to apply early... I overnighted at Swarthmore, and I just really knew that this was where I wanted to be. The people I met there were passionate, interested/ interesting, and intellectually curious, without even a slight tinge of pretension. People were engaged and completely serious about their studies, while at the same time keeping a wacky sense of humor about themselves and the school. I just really felt like I belonged there... good luck to all of you! Hopefully I'll see all of you at Swat next year : )

That's pretty much the way I felt at Discovery Weekend, ladylazarus. I'm applying RD. (Binding admissions scare me.) Good luck!

If any of you folks happen to do overnights, feel free to stop by at Mary Lyon. We are usually a friendly lot...

I cannot find any information on the web site or on the app instructions that say anything at all is due prior to 11/15. You folks are making me nervous! Can anyone point to the source of this information?
Many thanks and best of luck.

They may have changed it. In the past, they asked for at least the basic Swarthmore supplement (sans essays) and the application fee by November 1st, with the remainder of the stuff by November 15th.

However, they didn't hold people's feet to the fire on that Nov 1st date. It is quite possible they've changed it. The earlier date is certainly not mentioned on the website.

I just heard from some other people in previous years that they wanted students to send in the application on nov 1st so that they can start making a folder/file for that student. I don't think there should be a problem if you send it in on the nov 15th deadline but i'd suggest e-mailing an admissions officer just in case.

As to why I'm applying ED I:

Swarthmore has been my top choice for a while, for a lot of reasons (love the intellectual climate, good programs for what I'm intersted in, socially a nice fit, small size is big plus, über-legacy, and on and on). I planned to apply ED for a while, and actually almost decided not to since I really liked Princeton when I visited. After a lot of soul searching, I decided that even though there were things I loved about Princeton and even Williams (which I'm not even applying to, but that's something else entirely), Swarthmore was still my absolute first choice and I should just buckle down and apply. Crossing fingers and toes I get in ( I'm not assuming here, just majorly hoping), it will be very, very nice to not have the stress of waiting on admission from January to April. I'm a very anxious person, and I felt like having that hanging over my head would just ruin my senior year, since I would be thinking about it all the time. Granted, I've kind of condensed that period from November to December, but still. Also, I think it'll be nice to know early on and be able to plan and such. Of course, if I don't get in, all of this is moot, but a girl can hope.

good luck megblum. hope is a great thing.
