but i dont have exhibits- what did you guys send in for them?
and parents made 63k

i sent in photocopies of: ribbons and medals (athletic, academic, and art), my AP Scholar with Distinction certificate, community service certificate, etc. nothing really impressive, just what i had/could find quickly.

i didnt really know if they wanted copies of awards... i just thought listing them was good enough and it seemed redundent to send them in. o well.

well idk if i did it right. i am just happy to be done with that tedious long application!

Mesquite_girl, I did almost exactly what you did with my application last year.

how did it turn out? did you get any money? or were they like "you did your application so horribly that we are disqualifying you from this competition" hahaha

Haha! I guess I should have mentioned that part... I got a local award, a district award, and one of the $4,000 national awards.

wow!!! congrats!!! i guess that means my exhibits were ok. or you were just amazing in both the academic and the financial need areas.

"Middle-income" family.

i didnt say that stuff to worry you... you probably did it right, unlike me lol. congrats on your award tocollege

Well, the exhibits (even 20 colorful pages of 'em) only count for 5%. I think I spent some extra time on them because (probably like many of you) I was a bit stressed at the time with all the college and scholarship applications. By the time you get to that point, your GPA is what it is. Your test scores are what they are. The recommendations are written. You can't change (or improve) any of that so it feels like it is all out of your control! So... I looked at the exhibits as one tiny thing I could have an effect on at that time - I really did spend too much time on them given they were only worth 5%!

news, your exhibits are probably more what was asked for - but I just wanted to point out to Mesquite that hers were okay, too.

I rooting for all of you!

oh boy i cannot wait to see what happens!!!

Wow, a lot of people are applying for this - I didn't even think many people knew about it.

I didn't get a letter or anything saying they got my application =/. I hope the people at the lodge mailed it out!

they dont send a letter when you give it to your local lodge. until they actually judge it and then they tell you if you move on to the next level.

Ahh, okay. That makes sense.

Thanks Mesquite :)

You are quite welcome!:) did they say if many people applied at your respective lodges? they wouldnt tell me.

the lady at the bar said they've been trickling in. i was surprised to hear that.
my great great aunt is president of her lodge and she said she doesn't get many there- no we are not in cahoots, i didnt even ask her for help or turn it in at her lodge. lol
it'd be pretty awesome if i got the 10k or 15k scholarship though. i would feel so relieved about everything.

I'd be happy with any scholarship - I honestly didn't think many people were applying at all. I would have guesstimated around 500? But I live in NJ, and I don't think Elks Lodges are really heard of around here... I'm nearly 99% sure nobody from my school applied. I didn't ask but the people on the phone had no idea what I was talking about, so I'm guessing I was the only one for that lodge.
