My S is still vacillating between a BA and a BFA. He is going to apply to Elon, and is still deciding if he is going to audition for the BFA( on campus auditions only), or go in as a BA in theater. Does anyone have any info on this school. I am wondering what kind of audition opportunities he will have as a BA( are only BFA"s allowed to audition for parts?), and what if goes ahead with the BFA, but doesn't get in.... can he go in as a BA then, or is he rejected to the school as a whole? I can't seem to find any of this info on the website. I know they have a great MT program, but what about the straight acting program?

Okay, if he is accepted to the school but not the BFA he can go in as a BA. Obviously, it’s easier to get in as a BA if you have the grades for the school and don’t audition for the BFA. At any school with a BFA those people will have many opportunities that are bot available to the BA’s and he may not like that if what he really wanted was the BFA. Most people say don’t do a BA at a school with a high-profile BFA program. But you can.

Last year, there were people rejected from the school who by all indicators had the stats to get in but auditioned for the BFA so it seems they were not expecting them to come thus rejected them. It’s a little tricky.

I would have to refute that last statement actor12. My D was accepted to school and not the BFA program, her stats were lower than what some people have listed here that did not get in. I think they take a holistic approach and it is a school that seems very service orientated which is what my D wrote her essays on and had a lot of on her application. On paper I thought my D would only get in because of the BFA but that wasn’t the case

Cannot speak to the theatre program, but we have two friends who go to Elon and absolutely love the school and the area.

Well, mine got in but it sure wasn’t because she’s service-oriented. Her grades were plenty good enough for Elon but I also know some with even higher stats who were rejected. Why remains a mystery.

A nice “perk” for applying to Elon is that you can apply EA and you will know in December whether or not you are accepted to the university. It is EA so non binding.
