Email from Alumni Association

S just got an email from the Alumni Association (pasted below, sorry I don't know how to make a proper quote). Seems like odd timing since decisions are out in less than 48 hours. Anyone else get this?

Dear Alumni Scholarship Applicant,

As you consider your college admissions decision, we invite you to save the date to experience student and campus life at UC Berkeley through the OVERNIGHT STAY PROGRAM (OSP), a 24-hour campus visit organized by the Alumni Scholars Association.

Participation in OSP is contingent on your acceptance to UC Berkeley. If accepted, you will receive an email from us during the first week of April with instructions on how to register.

During the Overnight Stay Program you can:
-Visit the UC Berkeley campus
-Eat at residence dining halls
-Attend class(es)
-Speak with Cal alumni, professors, and students
-Stay overnight with a Cal student in the dormitories

OSP also offers a concurrent program for parents of student participants tailored to parents’ interests.
Note: Accommodations are not included for parent participants.

In its 16th year, OSP is the largest such event at UC Berkeley attracting nearly 900 participants per year. As a student-run program, we offer participants a highly unique perspective on college life.

WHEN IS OSP?
You can participate in one of three sessions:
I. April 12-13, 2009
II. April 19-20, 2009
III. April 26-27, 2009

HOW MUCH IS OSP?
Participation in OSP is $90 per student and $90 per parent.

HOW DO I REGISTER?
Due to the popularity of this program, sessions fill up quickly. We offer the opportunity for you to sign up for priority registration which allows you to register early.

while I was typing this up at least two people posted the same thing. So yeah, probably means nothing.

I got one as well. I think it's just a general e-mail for those who applied for the Alumni Scholarship. I wish it meant something. Haha.

Aw man so it doesn't haha? Man I hope Berekeley isn't just taunting us. I still don't understand why they invite students who applied but havn't even gotten accepted yet. It doesn't make sense to me.

It is a 'save the date' kind of message- they clearly say that after you get admitted they will tell you how to register (or not if you are not admitted). This way you don't book other things on those dates that would preclude you from attending. Pencil it in on your calendar, then either erase it or pick a date, depending on the decision on the 26th.

It still seems like they could have just sent this out on Thursday. What kind of a difference does a few days make in saving the date? I also think it doesn't mean anything however.

Yeah, but I agree zoreo, why do they do this 3 days before admission....

There were a whole bunch of people who were invited to apply for alumni scholarship. And then there were some who would have applied on their own (it is an open application). So question for anyone who was invited to apply or applied otherwise: did you receive this latest email of overnight stay possibility. If everyone got it, then it is another generic email. If the latest was sent out selectively, it still does not mean admission is given. But it probably means the committee has picked your name worthy for scholarship. They are waiting for admission decision tho to confirm your scholarship.

I was invited to apply, did apply and received the email.

I applied and received the e-mail, but I really don't think this means much.

I agree yummymango

Did anyone get an email invitation that did not apply for the scholarships through the alumni association?

weird...I applied and didn't receive an email...

Yep I got it too. Does it mean something?

^No. It does not mean anything. For those of you who applied and didn't get an e-mail, don't worry. I think last year, someone posted that a lot of admitted Cal students--who applied for the scholarship--weren't even notified of the OSP. So, don't worry. As much as I wish this meant something significant in my admissions... =[

ScaredAsHell - Did you apply for the scholarship? I am trying to see if there is any coralation.

^ He was invited to apply, so applied and got the OSP mail today.

invited to apply, applied, and got e-mail.
i hope it means something... but i have a feeling that it doesnt.
but then again it would cruel to do something like this 3 days before official results.
should we check previous year's threads?

^I'm looking, but all I'm seeing are threads AFTER admission decisions.

Same for me. Invited/applied/got email. Based on the data points thus far, there is 100% correlation between applying and getting this email. That will point to very low possibilty of getting this email to indicate admission acceptance. Back to reality again.
