So my son received an email from UT yesterday congratulating him for his high academic standing and encouraging him to apply to their honors program (I am paraphrasing here but that is the basically what it said.) Anyhow, wondering if anyone knows if this is a random email or possibly a good indicator that his app was flagged for acceptance ? I should probably give some more info. He is a non auto admit, TX resident, top 8% of his class. He applied about a month ago and his app is "in review. " Has anyone else received this type of email?

I guess I should have included : SAT 2200, GPA 3.9 UW

Which program sent the email? At UT there are dozens of honors programs at the college or departmental level, but no single university-level honors program.

Good question. I’m not sure. He just mentioned that he had received this email. He’s applied to the school of Natural Sciences (Computer Science). Perhaps through them. Just wondering if anyone had received any such email past or present.

Didn’t he already apply for honors as part of his regular app?

I don’t remember if S received any emails about applying to honors.

Good luck to him, though. Go back and add that honors option and see what happens!

It’s a standard email, encouraging you to get it in by Oct. 15. My son is at 7.3% and also “in review”, and received the email. Many did. If you look at your “Honors” tab on UT Direct, it will say you checked “Honors” on your app and they need your honors application if you’re still interested in pursuing this. It doesn’t affect your admission to the school, and it’s actually not due until Dec. 1 or Jan. 1, I don’t recall which.

Thanks so much, guys. Lizardly, he has not yet applied to the honors college. It’s a separate app with separate deadlines as Lee6666 mentioned. PS- Lee6666, ugh on that .3 !! We feel his pain.
