@happybanana agree with @pennydogman - I’ve heard that the BA/BFA theater majors are competitive and kind of tricky, so that’s probably the reason for the phone call.

@wondertime congratulations! You’re one of the few cases I’ve heard of that got accepted to Emerson as a school without a direct major or with a different one. It seems weird because they don’t give an option to list a 2nd or 3rd choice major to be considered for. Crossing my fingers for Thursday!!

Thanks for the congrats! We’re still full of mixed feelings here. She’s happy to have been accepted, but very disappointed about the BFA musical theater. And they DID tell everyone on the audition day that it is possible to be accepted to the BA-Acting instead of the BFA–the BFA is insanely competitive, and they talked a lot about “fit”, indicating that they might put you in the BA if they thought you would do well with more flexibility. So, as I said, lots of decisions to be made, but fortunately not right away!

@wondertime - Congratulations to your daughter! I have a friend who graduated with a B.A. in acting from Emerson a couple of years ago and when I asked her about it she told me that her reasoning was because it permitted her to take some visual arts classes in addition to the acting concentration. She is a film actress (doing quite nicely in L.A.). Whether B.A. or B.F.A. they are both very competitive and that’s quite an accomplishment. My daughter was really torn because she loves being in front of the camera as well as behind the camera, but she’s not at all into theater which makes it difficult to find a good acting program that fits her. I think that Chapman is the only one that has an acting for film program, but I really didn’t want to see her limit herself with such a narrow focus. Hopefully your daughter will have many schools to choose from!

My D is currently a senior in the BA program. BFA is more competitive to get in and they do make a cut in the program sophomore year. When D applied we decided against BFA program. Less flexibility and cannot do a minor (at least when she applied 4 yrs ago). She has been accepted to the LA program and got an internship in the Conan O’brien show. She loves it and never regretted only going for the BA. Congrats to your D.

We noted that decisions would be forthcoming on the 15th, then the 12th, and now today, it says the 15th again. Anyone have an insider’s view? Stats for my daughter, who has applied for the animation and motion media program: ACT 30; GPA 3.53 unweighted; Lots of AP classes; tons of community service to disadvantaged people, Excellent essays. She was very disappointed that they did NOT ask her for a portfolio like the other animation programs she applied to (Chapman and LMU EA; USC, Syracuse, NYU, Sarah Lawrence RD).

Ugh, yeah they moved it back to sunday again. My emerson portal clearly said the 12th for the past 2 or 3 days, but I guess something came up and they had to push it back again. AH! I can’t wait for the 15th!!

@newsdrms Conan O’Brien?? That’s so awesome! I love the internships Emerson seems to connect you with in LA.

I called Emerson last night, and they told me we would be finding out by the end of today tomorrow (Friday), because the admissions office is closed over the weekend.
I am now terribly confused.
Anyone else called?

I just called and spoke to a snotty person ( everytime I have previously called , the experience was good). This person told me the 14th. I said well the portal says the 15th and then they said on the 14th or before. Yikes, I will get carpal tunnel from logging into Emerson portal and NYU portal (for other D). If anybody else calls, please advise. Good luck to you all. I am hoping for Emerson for my D. Of the 13 schools she has applied to, I think Emerson is the best fit for her. It truly is one of those schools where fit is everything and I hope admissions is as holistic as they claim.

Hey, I also applied for Emersons Film program and I’m so freaking anxious to get the decision! I had myself all hyped up that I was going to hear back today and I was disappointed when I logged into the Application portal at found out it’ll be the 15th. Oh well, I suppose waiting a few more days won’t kill me - hopefully.
Anyways, my stats are:

White female, South Carolina
Specialized High School with Film/Entertainment Technology as my major
My GPA is a 3.39 UW and 4.2 W.
I’m pretty proud of my essays. Writing is really my strong point and I hope admissions offers will think so too! I also submitted a few videos in my portfolio that I’m pretty proud of, some award-winning.
I’ve taken all honors classes with a few exceptions where honors wasn’t offered at my school and 2 APs, and 4 dual enrollment classes for college credit.
ACT: COMPOSITE: 30 MATH: 26 ENGLISH: 32 READING: 35 SCI.: 27
SAT: COMPOSITE: 1820 MATH: 600 READING: 620 WRITING: 660
EC: TSA (Competitions in video editing), Music Club, Community Service, and a year of golf.

Hopefully that’s good enough for an acceptance letter!

Now Portal says today at 2:45 EST. I logged in 45 minutes ago a had decision but its not there now. Anyhow, it said CONGRATULATIONS…accepted to Emerson Fall 2014 to WLP!
Good luck to the rest of you.

Hi all! Just found this thread. I’m a Writing for Film and Television applicant & an international. Can’t wait for the decision. They told me it’s out on the 14th, though.

Does anyone know if you have been accepted with no merit money is there still a chance of Honors college? Portal says decisions are not made until sometime before April 1st.

You guys were right!! Decisions are out! And I’ve been accepted! Don’t know about the Honor’s College, though. Do we really have to wait until April?

I got deferred to regular decision (for Film) and I’ll find out April 1st. :S
My friend got in with a big scholarship and said that honors program stuff will be released April 1st too.
