Emory ed1 class of 2020

@bigBoy2016 it is peculiar isn’t it? I hadn’t realized it but now that you mention it, emory has been pretty quiet about admissions. It might just be because they’re really busy. But I feel like in past years they have always made some kind of comment on their ED1 round, since it is the beginning of the admission season, but this year it’s mostly quiet. I will see if I can find anything they’ve said about our ED1 pool this year. After all, I gotta divert my energy somewhere besides anxiously waiting for descisions

9 more days!!! We’re down to single digits, can you beleive it?

Interesting tidbit…emory released their blog for the “you’re in!” Packets and it says the day they mailed them was on my birthday!

But besides that, have any of you visited campus? And which one?

Again, I expect both application rounds to fall back to normal levels ending with a total between 17.5 and 19k.

What do you mean by the “You’re in” packets? Are you saying they’ve already sent out something like a “likely admit” letter this year?

@AnxiousBoy no no I meant they sent out the admit packets to the RD people April of this year (class of 2019). They haven’t said anything about this year’s (ED1 class of 2020) applicant pool but I was looking and just found that interesting, that they sent it out on my birthday.

It’s actually nerve racking that there are no updates yet either on the blog or on another source. I am so eager to see what is going on behind the scenes.

Yes @NeuroDude last year on the blog they posted so many times before the 15th and this year none.

@NeuroDude I know, right?! What I wouldn’t do to be a fly on the wall in their admissions office right now…
although it is a sunday so maybe tomorrow would be better xD
last years blog about the timeline is helpful but I wonder how well they stick to that

When they emailed me asking about my supplements, they did tell me they were starting the second round of committee reviews the next day (so last Friday). And @ismitah, I did visit Emory college as a junior last year! I only live about an hour away, so it wasn’t too hard to tour it

@Oliea98 that’s good to hear! I visited 4 times, once to each campus as a junior and once to each campus as a senior, just for good measure  and yeah, it’s not hard at all for me either since I live 45 minutes away from the main campus.

I was just looking and on December 10th last year they announced the details of releasing decisions on OPUS on ther blog. So maybe we just have to wait a little longer

I visited once as a junior and once as a senior. It’s a little harder for me given that I live in New York and airline tickets are quite pricey. I wonder if the five biggest ED applicant states is the same this year…

Same I visited once as a junior and once as a senior because I’m from Chicago so it’s a pain to travel for such a short time, but it was worth it for Emory!

I visited once junior year and once senior year. It was harder for me as I live in New York and the flights aren’t cheap at all. The blog was much more colorful and exciting in previous years. Now is when they should be updating us ED applicants, giving us some much needed relief as the stress and pressure builds up over the next few days more than ever… Come on admissions! Give us something. I want to know where the most applicants are from, like is its the same 5 states again, like Georgia, New York, California, New Jersey, and one other. That can really tell a lot about chance and competition. I don’t know if I would be coping without this blog and all of you feeling the same way as me right now. It is very reassuring and comforting knowing that I am no the only one in the boat. I also really wish the admissions staff could see this blog and understand how much we all love Emory and how loyal all of us are. We didn’t just apply and forget about it, we have gone the extra mile on here, through research, through careful following of blog. This is true interest. This is probably really cheesey but I had to get it out. I have to go study for my AP Chem test tomorrow so I am going to stop venting now.

Haha yes I feel the exact same way. I feel like no one understands the stress we are feeling.

@NeuroDude:Normally I would agree with your sentiment, but I think this year (I looked), they are focused more on marketing. Particularly it appears they are focusing on marketing the academics which is a strategy I agree with. They ideally want to attract students interested in some of the school’s signature programs and tracks and not merely the applicant who merely wants to land at a top school no matter whether the school is a fit or not. I think Emory knows that its applicants and matriculates care a bit more about the strength of academic programs than those applying to many peer institutions so it makes sense for them to actually use the blog to actually tell what those programs are because many actually don’t know before even visiting the school.

@NeuroDude it is good to know that we are all in this together and at least we have someone else to discuss these things. While I’ve been glued to this all day, I think the anxiety is making me more productive, like I have to get everything out of the way so I can come back to thinking about this.
As far as someone seeing what we’ve said about emory, I’m sure someone has seen it or will (but I’m not saying it will have any bearing on admissions). I think this because an admissions counselor for another school made a very aparent indirect tweet about what someone had posted on college confidential. So you never know!

For anyone who wanted to know, we have had 8.5k views

@ismitah I am in now way surprised about that to be honest. These blog truly are informative and attract lots of people to what others are saying and thinking. @bernie12, don’t get me wrong, I am very thankful for the Pre-Professional posts, being a Pre-Med kid myself, I’m just saying in addition, a little update as to the process couldn’t hurt.

Well, it can be nice, but it could also add unneeded anxiety for lots of applicants. Also, I’m still willing to bet there wasn’t an increase and if there was, not by much.
