Emory has been my top school for sometime, and I was wondering going into it how I might stand. Thanks!
GPA
UW:3.55
W:3.75
ACT: 31, E: 27 M:29 R:33 S:34
EC: I volunteered at Zoo Atlanta for a 1.5 years for ~250 hours.
I am now volunteering at the Georgia Aquarium.
Science Olympiad, on the varsity team for 3 years
NHS since my senior year
SNHS, started the chapter at my school this year and I am the president.
Have had a job since April.
AP’s: Human Geography, Biology, World History, US History, Chemistry, Physics, Lang, Macroeconomics, US Gov, Lit, Enviormental Science, and Calc AB. 12 in total.
Rec: Amazing, and I know everyone says that but I make a big impression on my teachers, esspecially my science teacher’s.
Essays: They should be good, I started to keep bees just for the essays. I also love science, more than anything, and I hope to display that passion for research and science to set myself apart from other biology majors.
Notable things about my application: I have done extremely well in all of my AP classes, I only got a B in world history 1st semester and 2nd semester Apush. My best friend also killed himself half way through my freshman year which had an effect on my work and my work displays that too. My freshman and sophomore year are a little rough but my junior year I only got one B one semester. My counselor said she would mention this in her recommendations.
Write essays about something else…cross your fingers because that GPA may kill you along with the other sketchiness.
Fly straight, fly safely. They’ll likely still not approve your request for landing at Emory, though.
@bernie12 You mentioned not writing about my bees in my essay though? They were going to be the cornerstone of at least one of my essays but I wonder why you said to write it about something different? Honeybees and pollinators in general have been all the buzz these past few years, I thought they would be a great way to show my interest in biology and entomology. If not I can absolutely ditch the idea though!
Well…the way you phrased things made it sound like you started that for the purpose of writing good essays…I’m assuming you were joking there or your sentence was written poorly.
@bernie12 A little of both probably. Truthfully, the idea for keeping bees did come from needing something unique to write about in my essays but it’s no coincidence I chose to keep bees. I wish I’d known you guys scrutinized posts to the level you do, I could have clarified since points in my post, none the less I am impressed.
@brantplant024 it’s hard to detect sarcasm over the interwebs.
I think the beekeeping does sound interesting if the essay is written well and you don’t give any indication that you picked the bees just to have something different.
Bees might also be a good topic for an application to Ga Tech, now that I’m thinking about it.
They’re good for Emory as well, because many people study them in context of ecology, behavioral/evolutionary biology, etc.
You’re going to write about bees, and that is unique enough for an admin to tie it back to this thread (which, of course, has you saying pretty dumb things).
You should get this thread deleted.
@aluminum_boat how do I do that?
Threads are not deleted upon request. One edit was made because it violated the privacy of another person, potentially.
@CrispyBullet why do you think I won’t make it?
