Emory University / Oxford College Class of 2023 Thread

I was accepted to both! 1560 SAT, National Merit Finalist, 4.0 UW, 4.5 W, fair amount of extracurriculars. So excited!

@ilackoriginality even though you are not officially in GBS, they will advise you and you will still take courses there until you are officially enrolled. At your admitted students day, attend the GBS session and they will answer all of your questions. You need 56 credit hours for early enrollment in spring of your sophomore year, otherwise it’s 60 and your fall semester of your junior year.

There’s no automatic enrollment, but it’s close to 85%.

I really liked Emory when I toured it and thought I had a good chance of getting in (stats below), but I got waitlisted (accepted at Oxford though) while my older sister (34 ACT, 13/400 class rank, similar ECs but fewer awards/honors) got in when she applied.

@TheGreatAmoeba
Can’t tell if you are lying as some do on here. The level of rarity of you stats signals possible deception, but I’ll bite. Oxford, just likes you, Oxford is a bit easier to get into. Maybe Emory thought you should have applied at least ED2 if you really liked us as you say.

@TheTennisNinja do you go to Oxford College?

No leadership experience or crazy awards, I’m kinda surprised I got in tbh

This whole process is very disheartening especially when kids are associating their self worth with admissions decisions. My daughter has a 33 ACT and a 4.8 weighted GPA. She is smart, caring, kind and hard working yet she was denied from Emory for regular decision. We could not afford to apply early decision since we make too much for guaranteed aid and too little to afford full price. This entire process is awful and not fair to those who can’t afford to apply early decision. Schools need to change the early decision process so that it is not dependent on finances. Emory lost an amazing student today and unfortunately broke (or at least chipped away at) my daughter’s spirit. According to online statistics she should have had a 90% chance of getting in. She also has really interesting life experiences and well written essays. This makes me wonder what is the criteria for getting accepted?

Accepted to Both!!

Got into Oxford! Very Shocked!
4.0 (weighted), 32 ACT
when does financial aid come out?!

Yay!!! Rejected.

@Yssej3 Sorry for your daughter…the admission process is a crap shoot and is sure not fair to every one (especially me, international needing aid LOL). She’ll surely get into somewhere great with her stats…Emory may have missed out.

@Yssej3 I am so sorry for your daughter and she has great stats, but I don’t know of anyone that has a 90% chance of getting into Emory, even those with perfect stats. Emory is not a stats driven school and their holistic review process makes it next to impossible to truly chance anyone. The RD round is very competitive due to the fact that so many are Ivy rejects. I’m sure your daughter will land where she’s meant to be. My son’s best friend was rejected ED2 and honestly I can’t imagine a more perfect kid for Emory. It was a heart breaker.

@emorynavy
Not lying. I really expected to get in and was kinda heartbroken I didn’t. Since I thought I had a fairly good chance I applied regular since I heard regular applicants are more likely to get scholarships. Thanks though
