**EMORY UNIVERSITY RD DISCUSSION CLASS OF 2021**

Waitlisted to Emory, I should have applied to Oxford as well.
4.0 UW, 4.3 W. 32 ACT, top 10% of my class of 500. So far I have also been accepted to Northeastern so I guess it all just depends on the school… Good luck everyone else!

I thought of something… Maybe if you apply to just Emory and not Oxford it doesn’t show enough interest. Maybe that’s why so many high stats people are being rejected

Accepted to both Emory and Oxford!

rejected with 32 ACT, 1470 new SAT, 4.5 W, 3.85 UW, top 5% of my class, taken 13 AP classes.

Waitlisted at Oxford… Accepted to Brandeis and W&M though!

D got in to both Emory and Oxford with 15K LA scholarship.
35 ACT, 4.0UW , 9 AP , 5 Dual Credit classes.

Oh yeah I also received a 15k scholarship to Oxford!

Waitlisted and kinda surprised… 35 ACT, 1530 SAT, 800 Math II SAT II, 720 Chem SAT II, 10 APs with all 5s and two 4s.

Founded an honor society at my school and have been Pres for two years, member of NHS, freshman mentoring program, VP of Robotics for all 4 years, Varsity Debate team all 4 years, 300+ hours of community service, ten years of stage dance.

Disappointed but accepted as Echols Scholar to UVA, BC, Local state school with FULL MERIT scholarship, and waiting for others.
Not really understanding this decision but moving on

Accepted to Oxford, waitlisted to Emory. 34 ACT, 3.97 unweighted GPA, 15 APs (didn’t take Art History test thought).

For anyone who saw my earlier post, there was some sort of mistake with my app, which will be resolved tomorrow. Keeping hope alive. Admissions was so quick to respond to my email and were very understanding. Also… didn’t realize that Emory had so many applicants in common with BC (or so it would seem from here). Accepted at BC (and so happy!), but have had a special place in my heart for Emory since middle school. FWIW… I only applied Oxford. I love the whole concept of Oxford and wanted to make sure that admissions knew that I was not applying as a fall back. Maybe risky?

Accepted to Emory! & did not apply to Oxford

Close friend waitlisted at Emory (didn’t apply at Oxford): 30 ACT, 3.8 GPA, graduating with 8 AP classes and many leadership roles.

Congrats for all that applied, and best of luck for those waitlisted / rejected! Hope everything will turn out for the best for all of you!

GOT IN

Admitted to both Emory and Oxford. My stats 1550 SAT and good GPA and Essays. Missed applying before scholarship deadline. A lot depends on Financial Aid offered. Website says OPUS gets updated 24 hrs after admission decision. Will check on weekend and hope they are generous enough to meet my need…congrats to all who admitted

Rejected… pretty surprised tbh. GPA: 3.83 UW, 1510/1600 SAT… people who were less qualified than me got in or waitlisted and based on counselor, supps, naviance-- I thought id get in easily (not trying to sound cocky, but showing my surprise). Super discouraged for rest of RD :frowning:

@hungrihippo Don’t be discouraged! Every school is looking for something different - this just means you’re destined to end up somewhere else don’t worry  hoping for the best for you!

Rejected at Emory. Did not apply to Oxford.
GPA: 3.89 UW, 4.68 W
ACT: 33
Kind of surprised but got bad vibes from my regional admissions rep anyways.

I’m noticing a theme in a lot of the posts, and a lot of people with high stats (including me) got waitlisted or rejected… I read in another school’s (not Emory) forum that an admissions person stated they know top people most likely see their school as a fall back or second choice (even though their around 20-30% acceptance rate) as they’re applying to Ivies and such, and need more accepted people to commit. At Emory last year, only 26% of those accepted committed, and only 15% at Oxford, so maybe they thought to accept less high stat people than usual to get more to attend.

rejected, but was low stats, around 3.6 GPA and 29 ACT. Applied as a long shot. Did get in at American.

It would appear as if the people who got the waitlisted and rejections had higher scores than those who didn’t. Sometimes it’s not what you think it is- obviously Emory was looking for something other than the top of the top. Try not to despair.
