engineering?? classes?! confused

ok what is Eng 100 and 101? can we place out of this with scores on the AP exam?? i took ap computer science A this year

what first year classes do people usually take? I took Calc BC in HS expecting a 5.

I know you have to do like Chemistry, physics, Eng 100, 101 and calculus. (biology?)

IS there any way i can squeeze a language or business class in there?

I probably will, if it means taking 20 credit hours or graduating late, since all science classes are so boring. Possibily transferring to ross or another school after a couple years if i dont get too bored.

I'm pretty sure you have to take Engin 100 and 101, regardless. From what my friends say, the course varies from class to class and almost all of them are fairly difficult and take a lot of time. Read the course guide to find out.

If you're in engineering, you have to take Calc I, Calc II, Calc III, and Differential Equations. If you got a 5 on BC Calc, you should start at Calc III and there are several versions of Calc III to pick from.

What people usually start with varies from person to person. You'll have time to squeeze in extra classes.

Why are you in engineering if you hate science? LSA can easily be tougher than engineering if you take the right courses, but engineering is always to some degree hard, to me in particular, because I'm not a fan of science either.

computer science A will not get you out of engin 101. ask your advisor at orientation about taking the placement exam to place out of engin 101 (taken either during orientation or first week of september). you could probably do the following:

fall-math 215, chem 125/126/130, engin 100, foreign language
winter-math 216, physics 140/141, foreign language, engin 101 (unless you place out, you can take some social sciences)

if you look back to a previous post, you need a "sequence" in humanities or social sciences. a humanities chain in a foreign language would take like 5+ semesters if it is a new language, so you would probably want a sequence in a social science.

ps-if you plan to place out of engin 101, you better realize that engin 101 teaches c++/matlab, and ap computer science is java. they are not too different, but don't expect to pass if you only know java...

i took the computer science ab exam, which a 4 will pass me out of engin 101, and a 5 even more. i dont believe not knowing c++ will put you at a big disadvantage if you are able to pass out anyways (did that this year for a college class and i did fine) because it is all along the same lines of thinking.

i do have a question about the calc stuff though. if i pass out through the ap exam, what does the placement test do? can it 'hurt' me?

The placement test is just an indicator of whether you're ready to take Calc. It can't hurt you.

not knowing c++ would be a tremendous disadvantage...i realize that they are all the same (generally), but you won't pass the placement exam if you code it in java. sure it would be easy to do with a reference book, but you still won't pass out of it..

i thought there were only placement exams in like math and chem. i didnt hear anything about a computer science one, because i see how that would be a disadvantage. but as christine said, it is just an indicator so it shouldnt really matter if you took the ap exam

you have to ask the engineering advisor you meet about it...it is not required at all, and is an option for those that don't think they need to take engin 101. this placement exam is more of a proficiency exam, you either pass out of the class or you have to take it. however, if you pass out from AP comp sci. AB, then one would just not take the proficiency exam.

i think you are missing the point that backfire took the computer science A, which only gets you out of eecs 285.
