My son will be attending a top-tier BS next year as a 10th grader. I am concerned that his Freshman English at the local public school may not be up to par with BS 9th grade English. Does anyone have any advice on facilitating a smooth transition for public school 9th grade English to BS 10th grade English.

What I would do is get into contact with the school. You can chat with the English department head or sophomore English instructor at a revisit or call/email him/her, all of which would be helpful. Your son may take an admissions test for honors or non honors, so he won’t be placed in a level that’s wrong for him. After discussing the situation and sitting for an exam, if you’re still concerned, you can have him participate in a writing class over the summer (through a gifted program like CTY or through a local arts museum), work on drilling vocabulary and grammar online, or hire a tutor.
