On the March SAT I got a 12, and I felt that my writing was equally good on the May SAT. Yetttt, I realized that on the May essay I spelled theory wrong about 3 to 4 times. (I spelled it theorey). I have already given up on a 12 again...but could my mispelling bring my essay down to an 8?

yea i spelt prestige as pristige ...but i thought my essay was amazing--would that automatically ruin my chances of a 12?

theoreytically, yeyssss. lol
presuming that you've maintained the quality of your writing and the range of your vocab, i'd expect graders disregard stupid spelling mistakes, even if consistent.

They do disregard stupid mistakes.
If you check here you will see that some spelling errors are disregarded. Naidu, the OP of this thread made some mistakes which were gracefully disregarded and she still managed to attain a 12. But bear in mind that this is not the case in general, and it can be dependent upon the grader. But I also saw another 12-essay thread which basically validated this point, namely that some mistakes do not bring your grade down.

I made mistakes because I was rushed --> like any mortal human being :D

BTW OP, the SAT essay is supposed to be a rough draft and mistakes are allowed :o

Last time I made several spelling and grammatical errors, but still got 12.

what if the essay sucked as far as support and structure goes (no conclusion lol) but it was very eloquent and clear and stuff?
will that save me?

It's twenty five minute writing, the rubric is designed to look for positive things to give points for, and they read your essay in a minute and a half typically.

Also, at that speed, their brain might automatically correct words (if I read fast through something, I read over the misspellings). I think it's possible that you could get a 12, but I would say less than 9 would be unlikely.
