Hi everyone,

I'm currently working on my Princeton essay (the longer, "Your Voice", one) and am wondering how strict they are with the word count. I know the website says "about 500 words", but my essay will be about 600 words. Is this far too long?

Thanks in advance for your thoughtful responses.

I think that’s fine (: Personally, my Common App essay is/was close to 750 words, haha As long as you absolutely need every word, then the length should not matter too much.

Totally fine. Mine was just below 600 words but within the 5000 character count. They just don’t want ten pages.

Ahh okay, thank you both very much! I’m just having trouble getting both my CA and Princeton essays under 500 words, but it sounds like a little longer is acceptable. Thanks!

Another question…sorry! Do you title the essay?

You can if you feel like it adds to the essay, but it’s in no way necessary.
