I am a current freshman at FSU and was wondering how likely I could take my finals for the Spring 2017 term early? My boyfriend, joined the USMC (Marines) and would return from bootcamp in April, in California (where we are from). After 3 and a half months of no communication, he would return and have earned the title of a Marine. This is such a huge deal and it is something that I could not afford to miss. The problem is, finals are scheduled for the last week of classes, which is the first week of May. But, I would have to leave either a week or two weeks before that. Do you think if I explained my situation to the professors and possibly the Dean I would have an exception? I’m just not sure how lenient the professors and school officials are about final exams.
Your feedback would be greatly appreciated! Especially from any former professors!
I can’t speak for FSU, but in general, your chances would be between slim and none. **If/b, the professors(s) allow you to not take the exam during the scheduled time at FSU, you would need to take the exam later (usually in the Fall) or take it at the scheduled time in absentia (which requires you to pay for proctoring) No professor, IMO, is going to agree to create another exam for earlier testing.
While I don’t know for sure how professors would react to such a request, and some may be accommodating, the official FSU policy is that any professor that administers a final exam in a class must give the exam in the assigned time. The only exception to this is if a student has more than 3 final exams in a 24 hour period or an illness.
The only option I think you would be able to have IF someone was accommodating would be to receive an Incomplete, and to come back and complete the final exam- however, I can’t say that I would expect ANY professor to be willing to do this.
