They just sent me a letter informing me that they have extended the deadline to January 21. Too bad I already submitted my application.

I received one as well. Do you know why they would send those out? I actually didn’t apply until I got the letter. Are they low on applicants?

Yeah, something must be up with their pool to change the sacrosanct deadlines…

Yeah, I’m wondering who all got the letters? Do you think it has anything to do with the fact that I’m black?

Haven’t gotten one.

Has anyone done Questbridge? I wasn’t a finalist in the ED round for Questbridge & I never sent them a real application and I got this letter, too.

I’m a QuestBridge Finalist.

My son got a letter and he is a URM (african american male).
I think they are tossing a wider net in the interest of trying to become more diverse.

As much as I do not like the idea that this seems a bit patronizing, I am going to have him do an application at this point. If it helps him get in, we will not turn it down. Consider it a form of reparations long over due.

Yes, this is probably outreach toward URMs, since they’ve already said they passed last year’s number of applications.

Makes sense (I’m white, so not a URM, and I haven’t received a message).

I’m a URM and I got this letter. I already submitted, although it’s nice to have extra time for scores to get sent! Does this mean the deadline is for everyone or just for those who got the letter?

I’m Native American and got this letter even though the portal confirms I’ve sent everything. Is this new deadline only for URMs?

Thanks for the help. I’d prefer to be recognized regardless of race, but I’ll take all I can. It looks like their plan worked!

@UofICPA–Reparations? You must be kidding.

when do you recieved this letter? i don’t know if I am an URM, I am from chihuahua,mexico… both parents are mexicans and i live in mexico so i am an hispanic do i am an URM?

@Truelove - Reparations ?
yes, or maybe you are not aware of the history of how the foundation of this nation was built on the backs of free labor for over a quarter of a millennium (1607 - 1865) and government sanctioned discrimination for nearly a century after that (1867 - 1965).

A SLIGHT nod in the application process for the descendant victims of this nation’s inglorious past is hardly an adequate remedy, but its a start and I have no problem in taking advantage of it, no more so than a legacy student would.

and @ NOKA1993 - URM does not (or at least it should not) pertain to non-citizens of this country. Affirmative Action has been too broadly applied to groups for whom the original program was not intended to serve.

We are ORM and D got this letter as well - I think they are sending this out to anyone who showed even the slightest bit of interest in the school.

Hmm… I showed interest by going to an information session and I have not gotten the letter/email. (Was it electronic or by snail mail?)

Well I may sound a bit selfish but I’m against this extension.

We will have more competition! :(

Also, don’t overanalyze this. They probably sent this to everyone on their mailing list (from PSAT, personal inquiries or whatever). If you’ve ever gotten an email from Dartmouth then you are on this list.

^snail mail
