Extra financial aid that I was never aware of?

I got a letter in the mail about a month ago from UTD about the AES scholarship, and I made the basic ($3000 scholarship),

The weird thing is that when I went to my account I had about $25,000 (per year) in financial aid and I never received any information about this. Is this a glitch, or did I get some departmental scholarship? I’m in-state and a middle-class student, so I shouldn’t have my entire tuition waived.

If I truly did get this money, does this also apply for room and board as well?

EDIT: The wording for the extra money is “Anticipated Waiver Fall” and I haven’t been able to find anything related to it.

I would call the financial aid officer at your school to make sure it really should be applied to your account.

@aeth3r Read your award letter again. Does it say you get a $3000 cash stipend per semester??? I think it is possible you are being awarded one of the top AES Scholarships described here:

"Academic Honors Scholarship

$3,000 per semester cash stipend to defray the costs of books, supplies and other expenses

@aeth3r the other thing that may be happening here is that you got the AES Achievement Award $3 per semester AND you are an OOS student?

By NMF I assume you mean National Merit Finalist. Sadly, I did not even get commended.

I have to look at the letter again, but I’m fairly certain I got the Achievement scholarship.

The exact wording on the Financial Award section on the website leads me to conclude the same thing:

“AES15 Achievement Scholar FA Scholarship 3,000.00
Anticipated Waiver Fall 9,761.00
Term Totals 12,761.00”

And yes, I am in state.

I have that fall waiver thing as well. It means they think you’re out of state.
