Extremely Confused! - Stern or CAS?

Hello :)
I'm wanting to major in business, specificaly Marketing.
I'm aware that Stern is the only college that allows Marketing as your major within NYU.
As of right now, my chances of getting accepted into Stern are slim to nothing.
Which is why I'm leaning a little towards CAS.
The first question I have is if I eventually want to major in Marketing @ Stern what Major/Minor should I be looking at in CAS? I would like to go to Stern for my Masters. And CAS for my BAS. Is it possible to go to CAS for undergraduate and then Stern for Graduate school? Also what majors/minors are considered to be "Pre-Business" in CAS?

CAS has an economics major. Thats pretty close. What are your stats? Youd be surprised, I got into Stern with a 1260 SAT [cr+m] I am actually signed up as a marketing major, but im going to try adn double major with finance. I think you can transfer schools, but I heard its really hard to do so. I would suggest for you to go into CAS Econ and do extremely well, and you should be able to succesfully transfer int o nyu.

I meant transfer into Stern, lol.

It's not about the SAT score I'm worried about, It's mostly my overall gpa and extra cirricular things. I don't have much of those, although I do have two years left of high school, It just doesn't seem to measure up. If you don't mind me asking, what was your gpa/stats?

regardless, you should apply to stern.

^^^^lollololololol

but srsly go for stern...it favors your major and you should take the chance

Transferring into Stern, as I have heard in the past, is extremely extremely difficult and you should never count on that plan because although other NYU colleges have only a 92% retention rate (those who come back for sophomore year), Stern itself, has a whopping 98% retention rate which makes it a difficult to transfer into. Always try for Stern, you never know. ( I just got in Stern ED)

my stats:
3.8 UW, 4.0 W
1260 CR+M SAT I's
730 Spanish 630 US History for SAT II's
LOTS of EC, some significant leadership positions, lots of community service.
Very good essays, pretty good letter of rec.
Hardest courseload available.
I think what got me in is the fact that I was a URM and first kid to go to college in my family.

you can probably major in anything you like and still go to a graduate business school.

if you're in CAS you can do a "business studies" minor at stern i think.

If you want Business, apply to Stern and if rejected, go to a different business school. Applying to CAS with the intention of transferring is a bad idea, because every year, people try that and after it fails, they are stuck in a school they don't want with a major they don't want. Then they're forced to transfer out of NYU altogether. Save yourself the hassle now, apply to Stern and other good B-schools you have a chance at, you will be happier in the long run.

I'm an Econ major at NYU. Econ is not the same thing as Business. Econ is a liberal arts major, you study the theories, structure and policies of Econ, it is more of a broad education than at Stern, which is strictly pre-professional business. At Stern you would pick a concentration like Marketing, Finance, Accounting, etc.

This is a list of minors in NYU CAS. As you can see, there is no mention of a Marketing or Business minor. NYU > CAS > Academic Programs > Programs of Study
