Hey, I just found out that I'm not eligible for TAG (no UC transferable math course) and my GPA is only at 2.84 with 24 transferable units (I retook a class to get an A and another class was only CSU transferable only)

This Fall semester I'm taking 18 units to complete my IGETC faster. I'm taking online classes which I find are a lot easier for me than regular lecture hall types of classes, so I'm confident in getting more A's and B's.

What are my chances on getting into UCI and UCSD for the Fall 2010 quarter? And also will I be TAG eligible for Winter 2011 if I do take a UC math course during the spring semester?

Thanks, I'm really worried now, and stepping up my game for my sophomore year. Also interested in the student government.

Major: Political Science
Schools Interested: UCI and UCSD
Extracurricular: Clerical Aide at school, work in the family restaurant, 200 hours of community service and A+ Certified (thought this was irrelevant, but whatever)

If you really want to attend UCI or UCSD, and you apply for the fall 2010 quarter and don’t get in, stay another year at a CC to do more than 60 transferable units to hopefully increase your GPA. The higher your gpa the better your chances will be. Even if it means that you’ll end up applying with 80-100 transferable units(all of them wont transfer over, but at least it’ll help you balence out your gpa).

dude if you are in state you can get into UC santa barbara with that…well at least it’s above their minimum req’s! lol
all they want for in state is a 2.4 so if you work your bootie off it’ll pay off :P

Ah thanks for that too, but I’m not too sure UCSB is what I am striving for. My counselor said to improve my grades and to write a stellar personal statement, the January application status will definitely reveal a better performance in school… hopefully.

Who cares about the chances? Apply this year, make sure to focus and get mostly or all As this Fall, so that when you update your grades and send it to them, they’ll see the dramatic increase in your grade trend. That can help you a lot.

If worst comes to worse and you get denied, then you can always try next year. For now, I say focus and give every ounce of energy you have this semester and pull out with a 4.0.
