F on a transcript?

Hello, I am taking two online summer classes as well as working a full time job (stupidest idea I’ve ever had). I’m thinking I may have to drop one or both of the classes as I don’t think I’ll have them done in time for the deadline (tomorrow at 11:59pm), and that means I’ll get an F for dropping. I’m thinking I will re-take both of the classes during the school year instead when I have more time. However I’m scared that the Fs will stay on my transcript and drag down my GPA (a 3.9). Even if I retake the classes and get an A, will it impact my GPA and will colleges see it? If I need to I will work through the night to get as much work done before I go to work at 7 am.

Unfortunately, it will impact your GPA and colleges will take it into account. If you are unable to handle the workload of your classes, it might not be a good idea to work a full time job. A part time job would be better. What year are you in if you don’t mind me asking?

I am going to be a senior this August. My full time job is more of an internship, however I work full days that sometimes start at 5am since it is field work. I will try to get as much work in as I can so that I can maybe get my grade up to a C or a B hopefully.

Whether or not it goes on your transcript and affects GPA depends on the high school policy. Is this through your own hs, a local college, or other?

But the Common App asks for all credit programs or courses attended outside your highschool. Is it too late to get a W (withdrew) instead?

We don’t know enough to advise you. But if a W is possible, think about going for it. Your work sounds equally valid.

This is through my own high school, so I’m not sure I can get a W. I’ve sent emails but none of the counselors or teachers are responding. Thanks for the help though! I’ve got a long night ahead of me.

Oh just wondering, even if I retook the class and got say a B, would the effect of the F still drag down my GPA or would it be replaced with the effect of the B?

Again, that depends on your school policy.

Email isn’t always the best contact. Can you call or find a way to stop by?
