FAFSA Signatures?

So my BU application is due on Feb 15. It is Feb 13 and I wasn't aware my parents needed a pin to sign electronically. So my mom just applied for one but they haven't responded. If I don't get a response by tomorrow, should I just select the option to have them mail me a form to sign? It says it'll take 2 weeks and I'm not sure if my FAFSA will be received if my mother signs it two/three weeks late.

No, do NOT do it by mail. The response will come soon. The response is usually slower when you apply on a weekend due to the necessary database checks. Submit the FAFSA on the required date, even if the response isn’t received yet. Just add her signature as soon as the system will allow you to do so. You do that by clicking Sign Electronically with Your PIN in box #2 on [FAFSA - Free Application for Federal Student Aid](http://www.fafsa.gov).

So I should enter the number of the PIN that I applied for even if it has not been verified?

I believe that you are indeed able to sign only the FAFSA with an as-yet unverified PIN. You cannot sign any master promissory notes or other financial aid documents with that PIN until it is verified.

edit: Here’s some additional information:

If it allows you to sign it with the PIN, do so. Sometimes it won’t, but if it does … you are fine to sign with it even if it’s not verified yet.

I am unable to sign it. It says my mom’s pin hasn’t been verified yet. what do I do?

You will submit it on-time. If you can’t add your mom’s signature by the deadline, submit it with just your signature. AS SOON AS your mom’s PIN is verified, add the signature as I explained earlier. Your FAFSA will be “on time,” and you will get the necessary signature as soon as is humanly possible.

I can’t just submit it with my signature. Ohterwise I have to send a form in. And even if my mom’s pin is verified like a day or two after I don’t think i can go back and sign it with her signature after i’ve submitted. please help

I am a financial aid officer in real life. Yes, if you send the FAFSA without a parent signature it rejects. However, when you go back & sign later (Box #2!!!), it will process. The reason I suggest sending it without the signature initially is to get an initial processing date by your deadline. If you can’t do that, you don’t have an option. It will just be late.

Folks … do NOT wait until the last minute to get PINs … or to file.

im really confused. so… what should I do? how do I submit it then

OH I got it. thanks. do you know how long it takes to be processed? i have two more schools to add.

It takes a day or two. Start checking tomorrow. Try to pull it up using Box #3, Make Corrections to a Processed FAFSA. If it lets you pull it up, you can sign with the PIN (which will probably work by then). Just exit, then pull up Box #2 & select sign with electronic PIN. Add the signature & submit. If it says it’s still in process, just keep checking.
