Fall 2011 Admission Decisions

Well everybody another day has come. I’m sad to say that no phone call so far, but I’m also very relieved that the mail man didn’t leave a rejection letter either. At this point I’m going to focus my strengths on a contingency plan just in case. I don’t want to be caught with my guard down. I want to give a big hoorah! To all that got in! And the beSt of luck to those still waiting! Cheers!!

2:26:32 hrs remaining …there is still chance for today… (cross fingers*)

50 pages for the EA Fall '11 cycle! Go us!

CKinglam: Just call admissions and have them change it for you. They’ve been nothing but speedy and nice (in my own personal experience). If it’s already been sent, which it usually won’t allow the shipper (GS) to do, FedEx will return it to them, and either you would have contacted them about it already, or they will probably contact you for another address.

By speedy, I am referring to phone calls and emails, not decisions. But I’m sure as much as it’s killing us, they are hammering through them as fast as they can.

james, i think you’ve just officially won the “most upbeat and encouraging GS '11 poster award”!

your the best. your call will come, just you wait (no pun intended).

hahaha! no way! i think that award belongs to Invic or yourself!

i would accept the “overuse of exclamation points” award!!!

lol. “just you wait.” lol!!!

Any of you think its a bad idea to email the admissions team a recent essay to supplement my application? I think it could really help me in my application.

ANY THOUGHTS?

@philly I think it is a great idea, definitely couldn’t hurt

Philly: I sent in that “Optional Essay” about a week or so ago. I (obviously) didn’t submit it with the rest of my app before the EA deadline, mainly because my autobio essay was already ~2,600 words. As time went on though, I realized that I didn’t address a couple of things, and could have addressed a couple of other things much better/more clearly. It ended up being less than 400 words, but I felt really good about it. I emailed admissions, and was told that it was not too late to submit it, and that it would be added to my file “for review.” I sometimes wonder if it pushed my app to the bottom of the pile again though. Oh well. I would either call and ask first, or email them. I attached the essay to my initial email regarding it, and my question of “Will it delay my app?” was not answered in the reply. So maybe don’t attach before asking.

Thanks for the info James!

If anyone’s interested in reading my essay, let me know and I’ll pm it to them. It should be of particular interest to anyone wanting to study economics/finance!

calls? emails? candygrams? anybody? tomorrow then…

I didn’t want to post this, being that it is an unproven “experiment” so far, but the more people that know about it, the better. Unless GS admissions hates me for doing it.

So there is a way to track FedEx packages to your ADDRESS, with proactive notifications:

Get a FedEx account. It’s FREE, takes ~10 minutes to setup (with a credit card that is only charged if YOU ship something out).

Get a FedEx Insight account. Also FREE, takes ~10 minutes to setup, but requires approval. (In my case, it took 2 business day for approval. I think they just want to verify that you are the one at that address.)

FedEx Insight allows you to see any INBOUND shipments that match your FedEx account #, a reference #, and/or YOUR ADDRESS, regardless of the shipping method (ie Overnight, 2nd Day, etc.)

Setup notifications to email you any INBOUND activity.

Voila! You’re good to go! No need to call FedEx every night. (Which I did twice!)

I haven’t been accepted (yet! finger crossed). So I don’t know if it totally works. I contemplated sending myself something via FedEx, but I want to know if it works for sure when COLUMBIA sends something. Try it out! Let me/us know if it works.

PLEASE NOTE: I would rather find out via a call from admissions, though!!!

Wow no acceptances today? Hope tomorrow all of us if not some of us get an answer ;)

Have to admit I am slowly becoming more dejected, even though I know that not receiving a response yet doesn’t really mean a rejection. The only bright side is the alternative is decent, (finishing with a Masters in the same amount of time with zero debt) compared to finishing a Bachelors at Columbia with sizable debt. Perhaps a little rationalizing on my part, but the final countdown is slowly grinding down, lol

Hey philly, Ill check that essay out :D

Just sent it!

I’ll check it out too Philly!

Guys, don’t give up hope. I checked last years early admission thread and it seems like plenty of EA applicants were notified of acceptances past May 1.

Hopefully lots of acceptance calls will be going out tomorrow, before the weekend.

Just sent again!
