Congrats everyone!!! Everything is in, now the waiting game begins.
I have a question on my app. when it say unofficial for transcripts, do they need to have the official paper to make their decision or do they make their decision and then ask for it later?
Also, why is it taking so long for some people on the board to get their letter of acceptance/rejection? Is it because they have so many applicants or just few that they can’t decide on who will be able to perform in class?

They take so long because they spend an average of 4-5 hours reading through and considering each applicant. That is versus an average of 30 minutes or less for the typical undergrad (CC/SEAS).

Thank you:-) also you didn’t answer my first question. What do you think?
Transcripts are $30 to order, so expensive!!!

If you get accepted using unofficial transcripts, your acceptance will probably be pending receipt of the official transcripts. $30 in the scheme of things is nothing when you’re considering attending a private university and living in the most expensive city in the country. I would recommend using official transcripts from the beginning if only to avoid the potential hassle you might encounter later.

Just got an email saying I was accepted for Fall 2011, waiting on the Fed-Ex! Had to write that somewhere since I’m stuck in Afghanistan and no one here seems too excited about it. Buzzkills.

Congratulations eirkh! We’ll be excited for you, and see you around campus in the fall!

Congrats erikh86!!!

Congratulations erikh you’ll really feel the excitement when you get back from afghan and start planning and packing and stuff :D

As expected, I knew I was going to jump through some admissions hoops, but better to have some hoops to jump over than none at all!

Kari Razdow personally called today and set up a 20 minute phone interview with her. What should I expect from this short phone call?

I am pretty sure they just want to clear up some things on the applications and probably ask why Columbia and what my goals are. But besides the expected, anybody want to add from experience?

Random,

how long has it been since you sent them your spring grades out of curiosity?

Random, try to remember the questions she will be asking. Good luck.

Liz!!! UCLA!!! We’ll hopefully see you around the area in a couple of years for grad school.

Congrats Erikh86!

Random! You got this my friend! I’m expecting good news from you soon!

Sorry to hear that Pino. I’ll echo Random by saying that UCLA is definitely a great, great, great school.

probably the most surprising rejection came from USC.

I applied to Columbia GS

Reading your stats really surprises me, especially considering USC. 3.8 cumulative GPA with 70+ units is so impressive. UCLA is awesome man, I have a ton of friends there and if I wasn’t so interested in finance I’d be there over Harvard anyday of the week

phillyman123- were you surprised about my rejection from columbia gs?

I’m not an admissions officer within Columbia nor am I experienced in their admissions standards, but unlike USC and Berk which from my understanding are primarily stats driven, Columbia (including GS) is a hybrid between stats and background.

Thus, if you have an increadible background (military vet with medals, or a CEO, professional athlete) you don’t necessarily need a 3.8+ to get in. However, if your background isn’t standoutish, or you don’t fit into the category previously mentioned, it wouldn’t surprise me that they reject someone with a 4.0 GPA and a 2200+ SAT. Extremely competitive colleges, like Columbia, are always a crap shoot no matter what “stats” you have.

That being said, I’d choose UCLA over Berk in a heartbeat - and would debate UCLA vs USC on my financial situation and future career goals (USC has the Marshall undergrad school if your into business or finance, while UCLA only has business econ).

Ultimately, if your goal is to work in LA in the future, being a LA native I’d put UCLA and Columbia on par with one another simply because, though Columbia is Ivy league and what not, UCLA’s alumni network is very powerful and the school has a reputation in LA that’s comparable to ivy league schools. On the east coast however, if that’s where you want to work, it may not be the case.

Ultimately though your future success is defined by you and not your college, unless you yourself become one of those who rely on their degree solely to open job opportunities. I know this because I’ve met numerous people throughout my life with degrees from colleges that may not compare prestige and rigor wise with a place like Columbia, but have demolished their professional lives and have out-achieved most Harvard grads.

Goodluck at UCLA and enjoy the beautiful campus and weather for me!

phillyman123- I will!

UCLA and Columbia share the same type of Blue for their school colors. Columbia doesnt use gold as their color though

I say that UCLA is socal’s version of columbia university, both having their big city type of vibe

The UC system was originally developed by Yale graduates, hence the blue color. The gold is the color for California, I believe.
