Chun49, I got accepted into Bothell a couple months ago so I stopped checking the unofficial transcript page as an indicator. It might change to list both schools, but I think at this point it’s better to just wait for the letter.

can you please explain what is the difference between sophomore and junior?

thanks

A sophomore is the 2nd year in school out of 4.
A junior is the 3rd year in school out of 4.

Starting from your first year in college it goes:

Freshman>Sophomore>Junior>Senior

@nana17

Ponyo90 is right. By adding to it, each year’s determined by how many credits you have.

So,
less than 44 credits – Freshman
45 to 89 credits – Sophomore
90 to 134 credits – Junior
more than 135 credits – Senior

You can see this at the bottom of this page:
[Transfer Credit Policies — Plan — Transfer — University of Washington](http://admit.washington.edu/Requirements/Transfer/Plan/CreditPolicies)

Yeah, I also have over 90 credits yet am shown as a Pre-Major Sophomore. I am assuming this is because they are not accepting all of my transfer credits. However, I should still be close, maybe around 85 or something. I think I’ll be a junior when I start in the fall regardless of this, because I am planning on taking 3-4 summer courses at community colleges, since the classes I need are closed in the fall at UW (so I need to take them now.)

@speakingez, thanks, but did u also confirmed UW Bothell??

I got in, I just got my letter today, good luck to all~

gt the small purple letter today. it says that i get accepted n another big purple envelope is on the way. yaayyyyyy!!! no worry now. i can enjoy my break with pleasure

i didn’t get any letter yet, but myuw page has changed even more. now i can see the cost of attendance, my material status and residency confirmation.
also, got 2 emails from the admissions.

what happens if i do not receive the envelopes? can someone please explain whats next? i mean, what they tell u through the big envelope?

thanks

@ nana: I’m in the same boat. I guess we should just wait a couple more days.

Also, I missed your post about my Sophomore status before. If you have 90+ credits (which I did at my other school), you’re usually a junior. However, it’s likely that UW is not accepting all of the credits.

You asked how this happens in your post, since you say most classes apply toward the major you’re pursuing. That is true, within schools. Like, within a school, you are likely to take only classes that apply to your major. However, when you transfer schools, you might not be able to transfer all of the credits, because the school you are transferring to might not have equivalent classes.

For example, a requirement of the Business Administration degree at my previous school, American, in a beginning business class called Business 1.0. UW does not have a similar class for their B.S.B.A. degree, so they might not take the credit for that.

Similarly, I took martial arts last year that counted as a elective credit toward my degree. Since UW does not have a martial arts program, they might not take that credit as well.

I hope I explained that clearly. I have a massive headache right now and it’s jumbling my brain. Anyway, I hope both of us get letters soon! :)

So since I haven’t gotten a letter yet or transcripts loaded, does that mean I prob got rejected?

I live 20 min away from campus, so it shouldn’t take that long to send it.

I wouldn’t give up until you hear one way or the other. Some people on the Freshman decision thread had almost given up when they got admit decisions a week or so after the original batch !

You won’t know for sure if you’re rejected until you get a letter; they might not be doing all of them at one time.

KayleyFC ,

i totally understand you. wish u a good luck as well and for everyone else too. i have the worst room-mate ever. if he checks the mail before i do, he never hand it to me. i have a history of missing mail. my tabs as one example.

i am very curios to know what instruction are in the big envelope, how to register for classes and when to do so.

The big envelope basically had a link for a website that has a checklist, a form to send in your $272 New Student Orientation Fee (not what it was actually called, but I don’t remember), and a form if you decline attending UW.

It looks like we send in the fee, then once that processes we sign up for the Advising and Orientation session. We have to have submitted proof of measles 2 weeks prior to that. The Advising and Orientation is when we sign up for classes and such.

@ Meesh: Does is say anything about extra classes opening up for transfer students? I am currently signed up for three summer classes IN ADDITION TO working full-time this summer, and I’d rather narrow it down to the only one that needs to be completed during the summer for sure (Calculus.) The other two, Managerial Accounting and Microeconomics, can be done in the Fall, but all sections of them are full currently, which is why I signed up to take them in the summer.

I need to take all of these classes by winter quarter in order to get into Foster through the UAG; if I don’t complete these requirements in time, I’ll have to wait until fall quarter 2012 to get in.

I plan on calling advising tomorrow and asking about this, but I am wondering if anyone on here has any information to provide so I’m not stressing out about it.

No, they don’t mention it. :-/

Worries me also. I have to take Calc 4 in Fall for the same type of reason.

Got my welcome packet and letters today! Transcript had loaded on Friday. Yay!
Transfer student, cum GPA of 3.25, Women and Gender Studies.

I got the letters today! :)

They got sent to the wrong place originally because I put my street number as 705 instead of 706 and my neighbors sent it back to the post office. Oops!

Anyway, I have it now, but I’m a bit confused. It comes with an envelope in which I’m supposed to place a couple of forms. But:

The envelope came damaged. The sticky part stuck to one of the papers, and I had to rip it off to get it to detach, which caused part of the flap to rip off. Can I just write the address on a new envelope, or do I need to use that specific envelope?

The only form that came in my welcome packet is the one in which you decline admission. Where do we get the other forms? Sorry if this is answered in the answer packet; I haven’t double-checked there because someone else is looking at them now.

Oh, and in case anyone wants to know…
Stats: 3.9 GPA, in-state, listed as a Sophomore but going to start in the fall as a Junior, listed as Pre-Major in CAS but going to major in Business Administration.

Okay, I figured out how to get the forms I need. Now I just need to know if I can use a different envelope, or if I can use the same one. But I’ll just call UW and ask.
