Fall 2013 Transfer-- Chance me please?

Hey guys, I've read a lot of different chance threads, but as everyone's stats are a little different I was hoping you all could help me figure out where I stand. I'm a first year California CC student.

Applying to: Cal Poly SLO, UCLA, UCSB, UCSC, UCD, and UCB just for the hell of it.

Major: Economics (with specialization/concentration/minor in Accounting, CIS, or CS)
GPA: Currently a 4.0, if I get a B in one of my tougher classes it might be a 3.89 next fall
IGETC: Will be completed for both CSU and UC before transfer
Prereqs: I will be finished with all prereqs for UC except Calc II this semester, which I plan to complete next fall. I will be finished with all Cal Poly prereqs by the end of next spring.
ECs: I am getting involved in the business club here, starting training to be an adult literacy tutor, and hopefully will have the opportunity to get involved with a program for torture survivors. I was invited to join Phi Theta Kappa, but I don't know if it's worth it.

My senior year of HS, I was student council president, I did some tutoring, and some volunteering for a food bank. I don't know if any of those will help.

My personal statements will be well-written. I don't have a heroic story or anything, but I am a solid writer and I have friends/family/professors who will help me revise.

So...Chance me for any of the above universities that you happen to know about? My top choices are Cal Poly, UCLA, and UCSB. Thanks!

For CSU’s take Speech Class. I heard due to budget cuts that its an automatic rejection if you do not have speech completed for CSU IGETC.
But if you are, then just keep up the great GPA! You have a very competitive GPA.

Thanks lawlking! Cal Poly SLO has a very low transfer admit rate (around 22% overall, around 17% for their business school) and so does UCLA (around 26%), so I’m really trying to stay focused. Yes, I am planning on taking speech class for Cal Poly this summer. :)

Other advice/opinions are welcome.

Great stats!

My advice to you is to:

1) Maintain a high GPA (4.0, if not, then try to increase that 3.89). For impacted majors such as yours, UCLA/UCB will base their decisions mainly on your grades! Otherwise, I’m 100% certain you’ll make it into UCSB, UCSC, and UCD.

2) Become involved in a leadership position in a club. Colleges, especially UCLA/UCB, love to see leadership experience. Be as well-rounded as you can with your extracurricular involvements too! This is a way for you to shine above other applicants who hold similar GPA’s as yours.

3) Have strong work experience related to your intended major!

4) Indicate personal strife or leadership growth or work experience in your personal statements!

Be confident, man! I’m an admitted CC-transfer student of UCLA so if you have any questions, hit me up! I’ll do my best to help you out! GL!
