Fall 2014 Transfer Thread

@foafoa Oh that’s awful. That’s exactly how my biology professor is though. She gave a test review that was 15 pages long just full of questions we had to answer 3 days before the test and told us to memorize it all because it would be on the test. More than half wasn’t on the test. I don’t break out much because I’m really self conscious about stuff like that so I’m one of those girls that has the lengthy face regimen… hah. I’m signed up for 17 hours but because of FLEX I only have 14 hours a week. I have one less stressor because I was able to finish federal government with an A but biology and pre-cal are kicking my butt. I know you can do it though, “The difference between the impossible and the possible lies in a persons determination” -Tommy Lasorda. That quote is what I’ve been using since last semester to get me through all of my courses. While it may be hard now, hard work will definitely pay off! Is there a way to talk to your professor about ways to improve your grade??

I don’t know much about RTF but you could have a shot, don’t give up hope!! COLA Undeclared I heard was really easy to get into though, I kind of wish I chose that over UGS. You can do it! Fingers crossed!! :)

So…its down to four weeks. Has anyone seen any changes in statuses yet???

Making a C is not the end of world! As long as it is not a major specific class, then I don’t think it will be an automatic rejection!

I’m a biology major currently… ._.

Hey y’all! I’m a bit of an odd case and would love to hear some opinions.

I’m a Texas resident and I recently transferred from SCAD, a private art school in Georgia, to ACC where I’m taking a few classes while I await admissions decisions to a few different universities. I completed around 100 hours there, but because SCAD operated on a quarter-system, there’s some equivalency issues involved (to UT I believe I probably have around 60 hours). I’m at a 3.3 with a pretty extensive resume in film, an internship, and plenty of volunteer and work experience under my belt. I submit three essays and a letter of rec from a UT employee (one of my old managers), and I’m pretty anxious about what the outcome will be because I don’t really have a frame of reference.

I’m trying to transfer into moody for advertising, though because that’s pretty unlikely I’d be fine starting out at COLA (though I’ve heard you can’t do COLA undeclared with 60+ hours?) and going the internal transfer route. I know my GPA is quite low for ad, but my resume is pretty solid and I’ve heard moody does take resumes into account?

Does anyone have any knowledge of the transfer stats for students coming in from private colleges?

@Saborak: Just want to let you know that I have decided to stick with the History class. I got my test back this morning, I really thought I failed but it was an 83 so I guess I can still pull off a safe B for this class.

@foafoa that’s awesome!!! You can do it! We only have 6 weeks left of school, so just 6 weeks left of all nighters and no social life. it will be worth it! Maybe we will see each other around campus one day

@AshlynEliza All of the school at UT look at EC’s, resumes, and LOR’s but GPA matters as well… 3.3 seems a little low, but if your resume is as stellar as it seems then you should have a chance at COLA! :)

AshlynEliza: I’m a PR major in Moody and I unfortunately think a 3.3 is too low. I had a 3.84. I do know a poster on this thread was accepted into UGS before his first choice RTF. He had an extensive resume and challenged his case through appeal. He even met with the Dean and the Dean loved his passion so much, he granted him admission into the college. So don’t lose hope! His GPA was around a 3.5 I believe.

How does someone meet with the dean? I would love to do that… haaha…

I’m not sure! His name on here was jpgarcia… You should message him! I think he was so passionate about RTF that he arranged to go appeal to the dean.

Still in review  I guess it’s good!
How soon do they let you know if you’re not accepted?

They have sent out Terry Scholarship emails which nominate the top applicants in the application pool, so they are probably in the process of cutting down the number of applicants. It is interesting to see how similar our transfer thread is to past ones, and in a lot of them a small few already knew around this time but most of them were finding out in the first and second week of April. Makes me nervous but excited :-S

Wait, how do you know the Terry Scholarship emails are only sent to the top applicants? I hope that’s actually true because I got an email.

I’m skeptical because I certainly wouldn’t consider myself a top applicant. I’m applying to Cockrell with a 3.6, no EC’s, no LOR’s, and meh work experience. I did feel good about my essays though.

Website says its for students “who demonstrate exceptional leadership, character, and scholastic ability. Family income and financial need are also considered.” I guess not technicallly the top applicants, but definitely up there, otherwise they wouldn’t be offering a scholarship worth 12K. Wish I could have been nominated but you have to be 21 if you are transferring.

My parents just did their taxes…TODAY…so I’m filling out my fafsa…right now…but it is past the deadline.

How screwed am I?

Can anyone chance me!?
I am so nervous now because I saw lots of your status turned into in-review, but mine is still only complete
I know it doesn’t hurt anything, but I am just being so nervous waiting for the news from schools.
Okay so here’s my background:

Current college: De Anza College(in CA). I am an international student. I finished all my needed units so I came back to my own country in Winter to wait for the transfer result.
Current GPA: 3.92
College applied to: Moody
Major: RTF
List extra curriculars: I dont have extra curriculars in college, so this is my weak part. But I do have a lot of experience in High School in different areas and most of them are quite major. Now I am working in FOX,Taiwan, which is a big international company in the field I apply, so I think it would help?
Number of letters of Rec and who wrote them: 0. I am so sad that although I do have recommendation from my professor and employer, I didnt manage to submit them(long story)

Really appreciate if you reply.
Good luck to all of you!

You are getting in^. Stop stressing.

Am I not going to receive any aid for turning in fafsa late? Anyone? :/

@lovechickfila march 15th is the priority deadline. As far as I know, you can send your fafsa anytime. I could be wrong on this tho. http://bealonghorn.utexas.edu/transfer/financial-aid
