Fall 2014 Transfer Thread

I have 58 credit hours, I am classified as a freshman for some reason. Will this affect me in any way?

@rice00princess I have 41 credits and I am also considered a freshman. I thought I was the only one but I glad I’m not the only one with this problem. I am just going to wait if I get in, then it will say what class I am and if there’s something wrong, I will have to call and see what’s going on.

@rangers32 thanks, that makes me feel a little better.

@DeeGeeErbear do you know non cap transfers that got into their 2nd choice of major but not the first? Does UT consider you for your second choice major at all? I don’t have faith in my 1st choice major. I just really want to get into UT.

Ok so when I sent my fafsa info to my current institution a month ago, I also sent it to UT, Is that all I need to do?

Rice00princess: I know plenty of transfers non cap that did not get their first major. The ones that got in had significantly good GPAs as well. It comes down to the essays and resume for certain colleges, which is why I presume they did not get their first choice!

@DeeGeeErbear can you give a GPA range?

Range for who…? Denied?

@DeeGeeErbear GPA range for people that got in to their second choice of major.

There was a wide range. Mostly below that of a 3.6 and weak GPAs for bigger colleges like Mccombs, Communication, education, and nursing

@DeeGeeErbear feeling slightly better. Don’t want to get my hopes up tho. I guess it’s going to come down to what the applicant pool is like this year.

@deegeeerbear are you on the admissions committee?

No I am not on admissions committee! I was a transfer who was accepted for fall 2013

@Korsgaard Thanks! Would you happen to be implying that if i got into the music school, that I’m more likely to have already been accepted to the U? (wishful thinking :-S )

my application finally went into review a few days ago [i submitted my app about 2-3 days prior to deadline]. im transfering into the fall semester with cns as my first choice. now i just have to endure the wait along with everyone else

Is this right? @utchild199 As soon as I logged into UT EID it said my application was in review. I thought it was just put on default and there was no real meaning other than your application has been submitted. Is this different for engineering majors and CNS?

@bninja9 Yup

@redeyejedi i may have phrased my post poorly. i would assume that my application is actually in review, as many transfers hear back by at least april or may if you already have 30 hours. i know last year that my friend who applied for transfer to engineering also saw his application be put into review at about this time as well (give or take a few days), so if you have your 30 hours completed i would say it is a safe bet that the application should finally be in some part of the review process. i like everyone else here is probably just awaiting a yes or no answer now from the admission committee.

Does Ut Austin frown upon students who drop classes? I do not want to take a risk of losing my 4.0 right now, and if I end up getting a B in the class my overall GPA will drop to a 3.9. I applied for the McCombs business school and do not want to risk getting rejected from the school.

I hope they don’t frown^
