how many people applied to UH for backup… same story here, accepted from UH, postponed from TAMU, and till waiting for UT

I am currently at the University of Houston studying petroleum engineering if y’all have any questions feel free to ask! I love UH and it’s a great school. I am very involved and I love it here! parents just made me apply to UT and A&M.

It’s not a bad school at all so everyone who has been saying that or is… just the reputation is not there yet as compared to UT and A&M.

But I go to UH and people do in fact get jobs here.

when did you get postponed from TAMU? I am still in review and I applied March 11th.

Is it better if you’re still in review…? they take a while.

@maria268 I didn’t mean anything bad about UH, but I just heard the PE program there is not credited. I submitted my application to TAMU on Jan 21, and I got postponed on Mar 5 i believe

I applied to TAMU and UH. I heard back from by the end of may. Dunno Y UT austin is taking so long to send out admissions decisions :/. I don’t really consider TAMU/UH my back up choices lol, they’re both great schools, but I’d rather go to UT :)

Does UT consider the amount of times you’ve applied to their school? This is my 2nd time applying and am wondering if it makes a difference at all

UT does not keep track of admission attempts @UTfanatic1234

I still don’t understand how UT does people who reapply.

Also, congrats to you guys for your other acceptances.

So, I think I know a lot about the UT admissions process and the GPA needed so on and so on… but when it comes to myself I feel lost. If I get a 3.48 I know it is possible to get into COLA or UGS but I’ve seen more people rejected with that GPA than accepted. To those that did not make it in the first time around, what were y’alls stats and majors applied for?

So I applied to engineering and had a 3.75 last semester and I was hoping for around the same this semester. But due to some personal issues I will probably end up a 3.5ish and an overall of around 3.6. I know that’s way too low for engineering but do I have a shot at UGS as my second choice? I do have decent ECs and essays.

Why do you say that’s way too low for engineering? Have you looked at statistics for average GPA accepted for cockrell?

@BigDeeOT Cockrell is notorious for only taking 3.7+ unless the applicants essays were perfect, they have tons of EC’s and they have LOR’s.

@Damnlol1 3.6 definitely puts you in good standings for UGS.

My old physics professor has kept a list of the his students that made it into UT engineering school and listed the GPA they had, if the had a letter of rec from him, and maybe some additional comments on the person. This may help give people a referance point on how they stand and help put some people at ease a little

@MsChemE thank you for the link, it is very helpful

Just got off the phone with the Student Affairs Office for Cockrell. I was told that external transfer students applying for the Fall (including those with 30+ hours completed at the time of application) will not hear back until late May because admissions needs to wait for the applications of internal transfers - which are due May 15th - before making any decisions. I’m not sure how this applies to schools outside of Cockrell. Were those saying that we would hear back by April talking about applications for Summer?

@want2engr dont think they will let Summer external summer transfers known in late May lol. That would give a week or two for orientation and to find housing. I don’t know but id guess we will here back within the next two weeks.

I’m pretty sure I read “up to late may” for transfers to get a response on the website awhile back…I just don’t want to believe that it could really take that long haha that’s still like two months away :(

I dont know how they can wait till end of May when the national acceptance date for colleges across the country is May 1 I thought?

Wow late may. Ok, just gotta be patient.

Don’t we have to decline or accept in May? I haven’t heard of anyone not hearing until late May
That would be cruel and unusual punishment lol

National acceptance day for colleges is may 1 for freshman not the same for transfers
