Basically it’s people who either don’t know what they want to do or people who didn’t get accepted into their program (though you have to put it as a second choice). You can only be in the program for two years max and there is no degree offered. It’s probably the easiest to transfer into besides maybe COLA undeclared.

Chance Me?

I am currently attending a Community College
My GPA so far is a 4.0
I have taken 19 hours so far and am planning to take 16 hours this semester
For work/job experience- I currently have an internship at an oil company
I plan on getting two or three recommendation letters from UT Austin grads.
So far I have 200+ volunteer hours
My first choice Major: McCombs business school
My second choice Major: I’m right now torn between economics and undergraduate studies.

I have a couple of questions I would like to ask you guys such as what do you guys recommend me putting for my second choice major? Also, I am wanting to attend the accounting program at Ut but since its one of the best accounting programs I know it would be very competitive, so I would like to know if I have a good chance in getting into the accounting program at UT.

Your chances look great, you should definitely go for Economics instead of UGS! If that is what interests you what is holding you back??

@Mnaseem: I really can’t see you getting denied from McCombs with a 4.0. As for accounting, if you have taken the right courses to be admitted into that major, I think you are a strong candidate. (double check, I’m a Comm major so I’m not sure how McCombs works in that regard!) For your second major, it is always a good idea to put something “less competitive” than your first alternative. I know a lot of students choose either government majors or economics as a second choice, because they are easier colleges to get into, meanwhile they transfer pretty well into McCombs. I don’t think you’ll have an issue there, but just in case, it’s always safe to choose a Liberal Arts major just so you get into UT! (Unless only certain majors are of interest to you.)

@Saborak

I just wasn’t really sure whether I would have a better chance of getting into UGS or Economics if I didn’t get into McCombs. Thanks guys for the information and reassurance.

If you get into UGS as a transfer and not into the college of your choice, what are the requirements to transfer into the college of your major? Does anyone know?

Gigs94: to transfer internally, you must meet with your current advisor and set up a transfer application. The application can only be applied once you have had one full semester at UT, a grade point average of a 2.5 minimum, and an essay has to be written. Your advisor might suggest you sign up for intro courses into your desired major, and you’re expected to make an A in it to be considered for the transfer. (These were rules I heard about from a friend who was transferring into Advertising, so some majors might be different.)

I am at a local comunity college , i have 3.9 gpa so far and will finish this spring with all my physics, chems and calc, what are my chances of gettin in petroleum or chem engineering. the more i read the more nervous i get!! please somebody talk to me

When is everyone generally notified?

Hey guys. Any feedback would be great. Here are my stats:
UT- El Paso
3.61 GPA
33 transferable credits by the end of Spring '14
Applying to College of Liberal Arts
Work full time so no EC’s for college.
Marching Band in HS (also marched in the Tournament of Roses)
No letters of rec.
Noteworthy: I’m from Alaska.

Hey guys, the last 3 posters who had questions, I answered on your own profile under visitor messages! Sorry for the delay, school has been pretty busy!

UT Dallas - Business Admin major
Texas resident. Freshman with 32 hours at the end of this semester.
4.0 GPA first semester
1st- McCombs
2nd- Economics
College EC: Phi Beta Lambda and MIS club.
High school EC: Student council every year, about 150 hours in community service, business clubs (DECA, BPA) in which I have competed at national level, charity clubs (Invisible Children, Habitat for humanity) and a year of sports.
No employment history
Completed differential calc and macroecon. Currently completing microecon and integral calc this semester.
Letter of rec: anticipating 1 from my sociology professor.
I am also completing a year of Arabic if that helps. Other classes completed/taking include biology (bio1309) , sociology (soc1301) , english (rhet1302) and a business basics class.

I am worried about getting in because I don’t have a lot of college EC and any work experience. Also I feel as if I didn’t take hard enough classes and that will put me at a disadvantage. The 4 indicator courses have been the hardest ones I have taken.

So let me know what you think, thanks!

JeffWinger: no worries about no employment history! You appear to be very active in other clubs, as well as an awesome GPA. I think you’re a strong McCombs candidate. It might even help out to get two more letters of recs from UT alumni or a business professional, and I’d say you have a great chance.

This is my first time using this app so excuse my mistakes. I just have a few questions to ask. Firstly, How many words is 120 eighty character lines?

Hi! I’m an international student and I have been studying in a CCC for 4 semesters. I’m applying for UT Austin as ChemE major for Fall 2014.

Current college: A good CC in Pleasant Hill, California
Current GPA: 3.94 (One B in non-major course. Well, I’m an international student). I have taken 4 chem (Gen+Ochem), 5 math (Calc, linear algebra, and DFQ), 2 physics, 2 engineering (MATLAB and Materials), and 1 biology semester classes by SP14.
Major: Chem E
List extra curriculars: Not really good. It’s just about became futsal club member in high school for four years. I have two jobs as chem tutor and prep room worker, though.
Number of letters of Rec and who wrote them: None or 1 probably.
I think my essays are good especially essay A (8/10)

Could someone predict my chance, please?

I have an update to my last post. I just received my unofficial transcript from a school attended 4 years ago for a short period (I am a nontraditional student) bringing my overall gap down to 3.45. Does anyone know if I’d still have a shot at biomedical engineering with research experience, great LOR’s, and good essays? The past two years during my time at UNLV I’ve maintained a 4.0. This old transcript is really setting me back though. Im sure ill finish this semester with A’s but I dont think those grades will be considered seeing as decisions are typically made before the end of spring term. Ill be at 67 transferable credits.

So I still haven’t submitted my application, because for some reason I am having some major difficulties finishing my essays. I am normally a very strong writer but the stress of it all has really been getting to me. If I actually sit down and write I could get them all done in about 4 hours but I’m not able to concentrate. Did anyone else go through this funk, if so, how did you get yourself out of it?

oh and @MissBrittany Not all decisions are made before spring term, I can’t be certain if they’ll take your old grades into consideration but if you’ve maintained a 4.0 the last two years I am sure they’ll look at those as priority. That is something you’ll have to call the admissions office in Austin about just to double check though. Worst case scenario is that you don’t get into the engineering school and you transfer after the first semester at UT. Your GPA will automatically start over at 0.0 so you’ll have a fresh start when you apply for internal transfer. Although, I do believe you have a great chance of getting in. I wish you all the luck!

Hello, I am a current college student looking to transfer to UT- Austin in the fall and would greatly appreciate some feedback on the essays I’ve written. If any could help that would be great and I will message my essays:)

Thank you @Saborak for the reply! As far as the essays go I had a really hard time getting started too. What I found to be really helpful was taking notes every time I thought of an important point. Then I compiled my notes and built on my ideas.

Thank you so much for doing this, it’s so helpful!

Current school: Hendrix College in AR but I am a Texas resident

GPA: 3.52

College applied to: First choice is COLA with an English major (do you know if it’s a good idea to declare a major within the college or better to go undeclared? Curious…)

Extracurriculars: a fair amount from high school (editor of literary magazine, GSA president, mentored at elementary schools for 3 years, environmental club, French honor society, and I have five years’ worth of work experience. As for college, there isn’t much because I only have one semester under my belt, but I have the -French club, Students Advocating Gender Equality, and participation in the college Hillel)

I’m hoping to get letter of recommendations from my French professor and my math tutor, who is a UT grad.

Any thoughts would be great!
