I just did the same. I’m glad you commented because I had no clue it would open before 24 hours.
Yeah, I figured that the 24 hour thing wasn’t true and checked again anyways. Did you only have the option to provide LLC preferences and roommate preferences?
Yeah I was suspicious I kept checking it up until 9:30pm, I gave up Yeah, well I also had the choice to pick whether or not I wanted a single if it was available for a higher price. I left it blank. I’m pretty sure ours was the same
Okay, cool! I was just confused about the lack of option to list preferences for any dorms.
Yeah, it seemed to be more focused on your interest and preference rather than the actual dorm choices. I wonder when we’ll know about the dorms. These were my three choices:
1.) Cultural Inclusion 2.) Leader of the Pack 3.) Fusion
I wonder if these choices also impact where we’ll be on campus. I swear my guide during the tour did say something along those lines but I’m not sure so don’t trust what I just said.
I’m guessing we’ll know sometime after June. I wish we were able to preference housing, but oh well. My top 3 were 1. Creative Expressions 2. Cultural Inclusion 3. Fusion
@Saw777 Oh damn, well you certainly deserve it! And I agree, persistence and proactivity go very far. I’m actually going to take part in this presentation & tour event they call Explore Northeastern (or something like that). I’m going more to also check out financial aid and see if there is any more info I can get.
The event itself might be geared more towards freshmen but I’m still interested haha
About dorms, is that actually in the $65,000 (something like that) or are those other fees? I know BU already has the housing included in the price and I will most likely commute for financial reasons, so I’m wondering if the price will go down further.
I’m just currently looking at a good amount of loans And it’s daunting, to say the least, even though I got roughly half off…ah, money issues XD Always fun!
Yeah,I know right. There are a lot new dorms from what I saw but there are some old ones from the past so yeah. Fingers crossed. I may call housing on Monday to see if someone will spill on inside info about which areas on campus has the most vacancies but I will definitely get a political answer because they’re still " Waiting on the number of students that will be attending". I will let everyone know what they say. It’s a lost cause but I will give it a shot. Yeah, seems like I wasn’t the only one that wants to get out their comfort zone and experience.
Thanks! Am definitely curious. Does anyone have their transfer credits available yet?
@aimingforthesky Don’t get me wrong, I’m not poor but I’m not doing good either. My family is only now improving and moving up so I know I couldn’t afford over 60k because I will be paying for my education but I didn’t want to just settle with “what if”. So I gave it shot. Hey, I did that. It’s mainly geared towards freshman but it’s still really informational. When I did it, it was only me and another transfer with her parent. We split up with separate tour guides who were both freshman. I had a really good guide who knew a lot of transfer students so I gained a lot from it. There may be more people at the presentation since transfer decisions have been coming out but I doubt it would be a large crowd unless it’s a main calendar event. Whether you gain something from it is definitely up to your tour guide and presenter. Fingers crossed that you get a transfer XD But anyway, I definitely suggest you find out who’s working on your aid package and let them know about your concerns.
@aimingforthesky That’s tuition, dorm, and fees (transportation, books, recreation). Pretty much an estimated cost of attending NEU.The actual cost should be around 62k. BU offered me 11k in grant and with the federal aid (including loans), the total package was 27k -_- I feel you on the money issues, seriously. It’s rough. You want to go to a really good school but held back because the debt that could crumble you. So you have to work 2x harder to pay some of it down and be able to fill in the gaps to pay for other expenses. I feel you. It’s hard making these decisions.I salute you lol
@JavaCoco Mines isn’t posted yet. It just shows a blank screen.
Cool, mine is doing the same. Glad we’re all on the same page.
Hey everyone! Quick info on dorms -
I don’t know the transfer process, but the freshman dorms have little difference by building - focus on the LLC. The newer and nicer housing doesn’t have LLC’s - it’s second year and above housing, which you should be able to get after your first year if you are placed in a dorm.
LLC’s are placed into dorm buildings based on capacity, so they can move around year to year. Some do stay put though.
Any way to figure out where the LLC’s are for 2016?
None that I’ve heard of - I know Kerr is always music, Stetson West tends to be engineering, but it’s not posted until assignments go out for everyone - I really want to stress that it really makes no difference - they are all within a few minutes walking of each other and are similar in space and style. Playing a guessing game to get a specific building really isn’t worth it, especially when LLC’s are actually really nice and picking a less than favorite LLC will be a lot worse than any dorm building difference.
How do roommate assignments work? Is it strictly potluck?
There’s a roomate survey for freshman and based on your LLC, they place you with someone based on that. Not sure for transfers, as it’s probably wherever they have space.
If we are given a housing choice as transfers, what kind of options are there and which are the best in your opinion (your = anyone who replies)
@Saw777 Ha I feel like we are in the same boat, basically! I am also paying myself since my dad hasn’t had an actual stable job in the last decade or so and my mom works as a cashier…but that’s life and I’ve accepted it. All we can do is work our way up!
I will definitely look further into my aid package since I really want to go to NEU, but two years will add up to about $60,000 of debt. BU actually gave me about $18,000 off but half of it was loans - the NEU grant I got is already double the free money lol. But it’s still a lot to pay, so I will have to find the right people to talk to. At least I got work study! It might actually be pretty nice & convenient working right there!
Btw did you try out their calculator? Because once again I got a radically different number out of it (like BU), and I thought NEU gives pretty good packages. I may be mistaken, though.
Btw, when is the deadline for the deposit/down payment?
I think it’s June 3rd.
