FALL 2016 UCLA OFFICIAL TRANSFER THREAD

@Panorama14
Just FYI, you’ll be charged $150 for summer even though you dropped the classes. It’s an automatic thing. Also, FA for summer is a bit weird, and changing from one program to another can mean the difference between getting FA and not. I highly recommend calling FA ASAP to see where you stand. There’s a lot less flexibility in what your FA options are for summer.

@jacsattack yeah, I called housing and they said June, July & August are all out of pocket X_X its to secure our spot ugh house payment the next two months :((

@TransferGirl2016 Thanks for asking. That’s a bummer. >_> I’m paying off my car so this money hurts to give up. sigh

@Panorama14 well i remember reading the email with the acceptance and they said if we don’t qualify for the AAP grants that we would have to look into our summer efan. so i just assumed we would apply our efan (based on the amount of units we would be taking in that program) and just have it cover TSP. ohman. now im worried. i guess it’s best to call FA like what 2016candles said.

oh and here’s what they said in the email:
“You must accept your summer e-FAN offer in order for your financial aid to be applied towards your Bruinbill account.”

I just assumed we apply for regular summer e-FAN for 12 units (because that’s the amount we’ll be taking in this program).

@2016Candles weeps. are you familiar at all with the TSP and how it works with financial aid?

@TransferGirl2016 D: omg. #broke. there goes like 10% of my savings I was hoping to keep for when school actually starts. i didn’t know it was for the entire summer! i mean. i guess that’s better than other schools when it’s a massive bill waiting for you.

I’m super young (18) and super Jewish. I just don’t want to end up w two anti-semetic roommates, or two roommates that have large cultural clashes w me. Lol

@kamiture yeah, no problem. I was already freaking out seeing the payment plan on the contract and saw the summer. housing was very helpful answering every question of mine ha

@jacsattack yeah RIP to all of us lol I was hoping till Sept for when my loans come in smh I get zero financial aid for school, so this hurts real bad :frowning: No, there’s no massive bill for the other schools. They do it the right way and pull out quarterly in chunks where fin aid is used or loans. kinda ridiculous paying for something we wont be using this summer. Housing is very competitive at UCLA so there’s that ha they house the most students and have the most people on a wait-list out of all the other UC’s. So of course they have their different policies… welp.

Housing is like the one silver lining about being a 30+ year old student. I don’t think I could survive in a dorm at my age.

@solostish - I am sure you will be paired up with normal and compatible roommates. If you’re paired up with awful people please let the school know! Heck, you can stay at my house if they’re really terrible human beings.

I don’t know if I should leave a personal about my dorming habits haha. Feels weird doing it in this thread.

Hi guys, so 2 days ago UCLA Housing emailed me asking me to pay the initial installment for my dorm (4 persons/ 2 beds) by 6/23 otherwise they will cancel my offer. However, I already submitted a Change of Assignment Request. If I pay the installment, does that mean that I can only get the original dorm and the change of assignment request be cancelled?

@troubledcollegestudent No. If a change is made later, your account will be charged or credited.

I recently was notified that I’ve had my IGETC certified. Does anyone know the best way to send it? Do I just resend my transcript to the undergraduate admission office?

I just had my transcript sent in with IGETC certfication, and they received my transcript a few days ago. How do we check if they received the IGETC?

The only way to send IGETC is via transcript.

One way to check if they’ve entered your IGETC is to prepare a Degree Audit Report right before your orientation day. It should show that GE requirements have all been met. If it doesn’t show this, then you should follow up with Admissions.

Future transfer student here. Does anyone know anything about transferring from a small four-year college to a California community college, then to UCLA as a junior? Is it better that way or is it better to just go to community college for two years and then transfer to UCLA?

@toothpasteonface please browse through this forum and then start your own thread.

It looks like my transferable courses have been entered and I can now see them on the DARS site. However, it shows that my transferable math course is still in progress, although I passed that class back in February. Should I have my transcript sent in again? When I had my transcript sent in back in April, I had already passed the course so I don’t know why this info is outdated.

@Edirol I still can’t get anything to show up in my DARS. I sent the preliminary transcript the first day too. I sent my final transcript express early last week and they haven’t received that yet. I’m hoping it will finally update when they receive that. Although, I only took one non major related class in spring, so I’m not really sure why they’d wait for that.

EVERYONE! Your DARS will not necessarily be completed or completely accurate until the week of your orientation. I know it’s easier said than done, but don’t freak out. Once UCLA has the correct transcripts, you’ll see that updated on MYUCLA. That is the important part - that means you have fulfilled your requirements to send by the deadline. The DARS will update correctly before orientation.

Do be sure to take a copy of unofficially transcripts to orientation. This way if anything is off in your DARS, you’ll be able to speak with your advisor, paper in hand, prior to the time of registering for classes. Registration doesn’t happen til around 7pm.

I know you want to see everything all perfect and updated on the portal, but you have to trust the system. Submit everything by the deadline, check to make sure they have everything, then just let go. You are Bruins now!!

Hi, I was accepted off the waitlist, so I am a little late for housing. I submitted the housing application but was offered a triple… Is off campus university housing still available? If so how to I contact them. Thanks.
