Also, I love your username  currently drinking matcha tea!

@matchamilktea I recognize you from the past years in the Irvine forums. But 2018 is the most exciting for us all !

@gonewiththeair oh duh, email totally slipped my mind hahahah. thank you & thank you, cheers to matcha! x)

@Kelvin105 oh no, i think you’re thinking of someone else! this is actually my first time applying for transfer. but i totally agree, 2018 will be a good year for all of us.

Hey guys! My first time on this thread but I’m in need of some advice.
Here are my stats:
Major: Art (applying to UCI and some cal states, hoping for UCI)
Pre-reqs: Done
TAG: Nope :frowning:
GPA: 3.97
No W’s

So here’s my problem: I currently have no W’s and I just ran into an issue with my Photo 101 professor. It’s not a required course btw. Basically he keeps making these mildly inappropriate comments, nothing that really bothered me THAT much, but just telling me how cute I am and how it’s adorable that I keep messing up the developing stuff. I was talking about it to a friend in another class, and the professor of that class approached me to tell me he has heard sketchy stuff about this professor and I should be very careful - of course this was after the drop date. After my other professor told me this, I don’t feel comfortable in the class anymore. I called a counselor at my CC and she basically told me if I want to contest the W, I’ll need to prove that he was inappropriate, and she says it doesn’t sound like I have any proof. I tried contacting UCI and they gave me a really generic answer, kind of like “update your TAU,” and gave me no info on if this would negatively impact my admission decision.

So what do you guys think I should do? Should I try and fight the W? Or just take my chances? I realllyyyy need to transfer and will be so unhappy if I don’t get into UCI :frowning:

@misskelseyk Sorry for what your having to go thorugh.

1 W should not make a difference. But if you do want to fight it I’d say find a new seat in the class and if the comments continue to come then use voice recording and get some proof.

Even if you drop the class rn it won’t make a difference to the decision bc it wasn’t a required class. You would have a W on your transcript, but who cares you’re transferring anyway and the numbers don’t carry over from CC to UC.

Personally, if i had a GPA as strong as yours I wouldn’t drop the class and get a W bc there’s some pride involved lol. But i also wouldn’t just tolerate the comments. I would try to get some proof ASAP(voice recording) and get the hell out.

@Ak1097 thank you for your help! I think from all the info I’ve gotten it looks like a W won’t have an impact on the admission decision so I’d rather not go through the whole process of fighting it. It seems like a long ordeal to prove something just for the sake of my pride lol
Thanks again!

@misskelseyk sorry for being late but if you still didn’t drop yet and the class you are taking is transferable, make sure you have at least 60 units. Sometimes, some of us might not realize that we are under the 60 units.

@AdultSwimFan Thank you for replying! Yes I am well above 60 units so it shouldn’t be an issue for me. I was only worried about the “mark” a W leaves on my record.

do anyone know when will the tag people know their admission decision ?

@KnightKing From looking at historical decision release dates, I think mid-March!

EVERYONE MUST READ THIS!!!

I just found out from assist.org that some combination of classes counts as only a specific number of units, and some classes won’t even count after taking higher level courses.

Thankfully I recalculated my units and I currently have 61 units. UC TAP stated I have 65 units, but after recalculating from assist.org I slightly made it past 60 units without my SPRING 2018 in process courses.

UC and especially UCI, I heard are picky about transferable unit counts.

Hopefully, UCI won’t screw up the unit counts on my application because I TAG into the university and I’m so ready to make an appeal if anything shady is going to occur.

Talk about shady, UCI was so corrupted last fall that they attempted to rescind 500 freshmen applicants because they admitted more than they should have.

@Kelvin105 Hey! I think community colleges give you a general ed. or IGETC curriculum sheet to what you’re referring to. If you look on the last page, it states what classes are counted together as the same unit (at least for my college, Orange Coast College). I pretty sure most of us have seen it if I’m not mistaken. Also, a few of my counselors told me that the UCs are no longer updating on assist, it’s been two years since they updated!

Here is a video I found on youtube of a recorded UC TAG ADMISSIONS WORKSHOP from Pasadena City College. According to them, they claim they have the best transfer center in California because that all of their transfer counselors are previous UC EMPLOYEES.

The video is from Fall 2017 and the counselor mentioned to check ASSIST.ORG for unit calculations. I honestly would trust them more than my own transfer counselors.

This is what one of my transfer counselors told me at school [ “Even if you had met all the TAG REQUIREMENTS, UC IRVINE can still MAKE AN EXCUSE TO REJECT YOU because they don’t think you’re UC Material” ].

Just want to let everyone out there know that some or most of the transfer counselors in city colleges are not very knowledgeable.

did we have to update our grades on uctap as well? or just the tau on the regular admission application?
