FALL 2018 UCI Irvine Official Transfer Thread

@matchamilktea I think just on the regular admission application

@kelvin105 I cant attest to this! I just finished up my AA this past Fall. I may be a bit biased, but PCC is, without a doubt, one of the best CC’s for transfer students.

UC GPA: 3.89
Major GPA: 4.0
Major: Business Administration
IGETC: Partial (missing one)
Pre-reqs: Completed
Did not use a TAG.

Also applying to UCSB, UCR, LMU, and USC.

Good luck to everyone!

@SabPardo wish I had a great CC like PCC.

Also, the major requirement required to fulfill tag seems confusing to many people, but just follow this website and it tells you what you need.

Can anyone give me advice? Currently I’m attending SF State as CS student (upper division) with a 3.41 GPA (Max: 3.44 Min: 3.41 after this semester)
Should I switch my major to Computer Science and Engineering from Software Engineering (Secondary: CS) that I applied with?
Last year, I applied Irvine as a freshman with a 3.56 GPA and was rejected.
Is it a good idea to apply for a major change because last year statistics for SE and CS requires better GPA as well low acceptance percentages?
I’m currently taking upper div courses at SF State and physics 4B (E/E). But I haven’t take calc 3 and differential equations. I might get A’s and B’s in my classes this sem which may look good as a Computer Science and Engr transfer if I switch to that major. Please help, I’ve been desperate to transfer to Irvine for the past three years. Sorry if my grammar might be bad.

@sodapop111 Stop taking classes from SFSU and start applying to CCSF. You have a much higher chance of transferring to UCI through CCSF than SFSU.

I visited almost most of the UC campuses and I can tell you Irvine has the best location of them all.

@gonewiththeair perfect, thank you! :3

@sodapop111 i agree with kelvin105! when it comes to transfers, uc’s prioritize community college students, then uc to uc transfers, then cal state to uc transfers. i’m not sure where state schools fit in that list, but i would assume they are prioritized last which could be why you haven’t been able to get in.

@Kelvin105 @matchamilktea the only problem is that my parents won’t let me drop out thinking that I won’t get in and I already qualified for TAG the beginning of 2016 and could’ve got in. Should I switch majors at this point to improve my chances of getting in?

@sodapop111 aw, man. i’m sorry to hear that! in regards to your question, i think you should first email uci & check to see if you’re still eligible to change your major at this point? the last day to request a major change at ucla was january 31st, but all uc’s are different, so uci may still let you change it!

I have a quick question. I did update for my fall grade in January, but do I have to update my application again if I did take winter classes? or I can just leave it like that?

@KnightKing I prefer that you don’t update grades from winter because it won’t count on your GPA. Also, the UCs wouldn’t even look at it after you get admitted. So, I wouldn’t worry about winter grades.

I updated my winter grades a while back.

@cpre98 how did you do that? Our TAU was due in Jan. 31st and most schools don’t update our winter grades until the first week of Feb. but unless your winter session in your CC was a different date than my CC?

@Christinesoh you are allowed to update your transcript after the 31st as long as you submitted your first TAU by the 31st to get priority. That’s what my counselor said and on the UCLA thread, another person brought that up.

@cpre98 oh okay thank you so much for the information! I know UCSB sent me an email about being able to update your TAU until march if people haven’t done it yet but I wasn’t sure if it applied to all the UC’s and not just SB.

so I just updated my TAU for my winter grades whether it counts or not. I just feel content putting that A hehe!

Has anyone received an admission decision yet? They’re supposed to start going out today.

Nope

@UCLASaxDad Do they go out today for freshmen? I don’t think they usually start rolling acceptances for TAG applicants until mid-March but they may be doing something different this year.

yeah, freshmen decisions start today whereas some tag applicants will (hopefully) be notified mid-march followed by the remaining transfer applicants in april!
