There is no EA decision time frame. It seems to be rather random. When DS applied 2 years ago, he was the last one of all of his friends to find out his major. He was autoadmit, 2340 SAT, 26/700 rank, great ECs, applying Chem E. App went in in August. He found out in March. Rather frustrating. DD is also autoadmit this year, top 4 %, 35 ACT, great ECs and has heard nothing but crickets from admissions for her major of BME. Her app went in in Early September. Most of her friends, both auto and non auto have found out their majors. And noticed some OOS BME’s have been notified. She is not in any rush since she will be hearing from schools until April but it would be nice to know. Good luck to all.
Thanks @dansmoaustin and @GTAustin. We fell to their hype to get the App in asap for no apparent reason except we got our housing app in early. OK, hurry up and wait. Good luck to all. Maybe the LAH or Plan II will come in December.
Has anyone gotten acceptance after Thanksgiving break? Just curious!
Hi guys, I’m OOS, and I forgot to send my ACT scores! Is it ok if I send them now?
@basedchem Yes. They can even accept December test scores.
I haven’t seen or heard of anyone receiving LAH/PlanII or MyStatus updates since the Thanksgiving weekend. Not much of a rolling admissions, more like a thud. But then again, if I remember from last years thread, it comes out in waves, about every 2-3 weeks. I wouldn’t be surprised if they have one around Dec 15th, like so many other big schools seem to be targeting as a release time frame.
So do you guys think we will find out before christmas? I got automatically accepted and i applied for biology. A lot of people who applied way after me got in during November and i hope its really because it was chosen at complete random lol I would like to

In my opinion, release of admission to majors is not random. It is just very complicated. There is a wealth of information available because of the Fisher case (which is going to b argued again this week).
In the link attached is an example of an AI /PAI grid (420a) with a line drawn on it denoting which boxes on the grid were accepted to their major and which weren’t. If you are in one of the boxes for your major that they can easily tell will qualify, they can let you know earlier in the process. If you are more borderline, you have to wait. It is a numbers game and the PAI means it isn’t just rank and scores.
On top of that, every major has a different level of competitiveness. If you are applying to Early Childhood education or Arabic studies, you don’t have to be as competitive as you do for computer science. There is less competition. In general, those who have gotten majors so far are those going into less competitive majors and/ or those with very, very good stats. Some people got majors because they were reviewed by an honors program that saw something special in their application and admitted them due to that.
This is the theory I have developed to pass time while waiting.
If you think about yield management, which admission officers do, they are smart to wait until after early decisions from selective schools come out. In those cases, applicants are bound to withdraw their UT applications within a set time period (3 weeks or something like that). At that point, a lot of the people using UT as a safety come out of the pool and UT avoids making offers to people who will not enroll. I think this is especially true of Plan II.
If you are applying to a competitive major (engineering, business, nursing, computer science) and you don’t have a very high AI/PAI and you didn’t blow an honors program away, you have a bit of a wait in front of you.
You can estimate your AI block but it is very hard to estimate your PAI block.
If I applied the date of the deadline, and turned in my SIF during the grace period, when should I expect to get my decision?
@basedchem Looking at your chances thread, you are in the 40th percentile at your school. Unless you applied for an honors program and get in through that avenue, I would think you won’t hear until the end of February.
@gettingschooled Thank you! And I would ask that you not carry that tone when you talk about my class rank. My school doesn’t even officially rank (that was just an estimation based on my UW GPA). The average accept GPA for UT Austin from my school is actually lower than my GPA.
What tone? I used no tone. I restated a stat you posted on another thread which I took the time to find. You provided no information about yourself and asked a question that has been answered at least 15 times in this thread already.
So let me reciprocate and ask you to do a little research on the school you are applying to before asking a question or you know -read the thread!
I think they’re starting the second wave for majors because I finally got my neuroscience major today, and I applied in late September. Just waiting for honors now!
Congratulations! My D is waiting on Biochemistry but hasn’t heard yet. Were you an auto admit?
Has anyone heard from UT yet? If not, when do you think we will find out?
@NotSoPatient I was an auto admit but heard from my major a little later than my other friends in Natural Sciences that were auto admits even though I turned in my app in Sept. My friend who was an auto admit in biochem heard significantly earlier than I did during the first wave in late Nov. is your D an auto admit?
Yes, she is an auto admit as well. Top 3.5% of her class. Her app was done in late September, but the ACT score didn’t arrive to them until 10/12. She is getting a little worried.
If you’ve gotten your acceptance of your major, what time of the day was it posted to your MyStatus page? Where on the page did you find it?
I found out today that I got admitted to CS. I am auto admit and submit on 10/11/2015.
Have any non-auto admits gotten in yet? Been waiting since October and a bunch of people from my school got in late November but I still have not found it. It says my application is still in review and I don’t know what that means. Super stressed someone please respond!
