@ljtjrose hang in there! I know the waiting is tough. As a go-by, my DD had similar stats and heard February 19th. The waiting was so frustrating I actually cried when her acceptance c
He has not been asked to interview, MOMOF5TX. I’ve been told that most, but not all, of the interviews have already occurred. Don’t know if there was a problem with the application or a snafu of some sort. Its a bit worrisome but we will continue to hope for the best.
My son was top 4% of a competitive public HS in Austin, 2320 SAT, 4.5 GPA and did not hear from Cockrell until March (2014) - one of the last ones of his friends. He was applying Chem E in August. My DD is top 4%, 35 ACT, 4.5 GPA, NMSF, research and leadership, etc and she is waiting…she applied late August for Biomed E.
@Ljtjrose We know kids from our high school with much lower stats that got into McCombs, We were actually surprised they got in. Must be that your son applied later. I am sure he will get in. And yes the waiting is tough. A lot of these kids will have great options at other schools and I think that UT loses some because they make them wait.
Do you think UT is managing the yield?. They know top 7% is auto admit. So getting in is not an issue. But if your score is good they may think you may go somewhere via ED?.
I don’t think that UT should be overly focused on yield since its very hard to guess who may attend and who may not. And in our case, our son’s older sister is already at UT (she is a Plan II freshman) and she would love to have another Longhorn in the family. :">
My DS was admitted to UT Austin, College of Liberal Arts (received letter in the mail 1/20/16). His portal also reflects this admission. He is still waiting on LAH and Plan II decisions.
My DS is in-state and a non-auto admit.
Looks likes he’s a beneficiary of last week’s wave
So I received a email called ‘Finance your Future’ which was a financial aid seminar being offered by one of the regional UT Offices. Is this being offered to both non admits and admits? Bealonghorn shows I’m still in review.
I just got the email too. My status still says in review… I’m guessing it’s just a generic email?
DS received the same FASFA email this morning. Still in review.
@texangirl505. I spoke to my offices financial aid counselor about the email. I was told that the people being offered this, were on a list from the UT office in which they requested these applicants to be invited to it. Sounds like a good omen to me.
DD got notice this afternoon that she is accepted into her biochem major at the CNS! Still waiting on Presidential and Dean’s Scholars. Hoping lots of people got great news today!
I got an email just now telling me to check MyStatus because “within the last 24 hours, we sent you important information in MyStatus.”
But nothing seems to have changed?
Hello everyone,
I have been reading this blog or forum since November and have been anxiously waiting for my decision for quite a while like many other people on here.
I was accepted into Neuroscience major today at UT Austin around 6:00 PM and am extremely happy! I didn’t think I was gonna get into my major at all but surprisingly so I got in.
I am not bragging but I just want to post this because I want people to know that they should never give up hope, because I got in and my stats were EXTREMELY mediocre. Miraculously I even got the Presidential scholarship!!! So don’t withdraw your apps and keep waiting please
My stats for those curious:
- SAT: 1760 (CR: 620, MATH: 630, Writing: 510 lol that one is embarrassing)
- SAT Subject tests: 650 BIO 570 MATH 1
- In state
- Top 3% (I go to a very not competitive high school)
- 3.99 Unweighted GPA 5.3 Weighted
- I come from an underprivileged family low middle class (>$43,000 annually)
- Extracurricular activities:
- Science Olympiad VP
- Mu Alpha Theta
- Muslim Youth Basketball
- Chess Club
- AP tests: Took 4-5 and passed all of them (College Board AP Scholar)
- Wrote required essay and one extra one. I am a horrible writer but I wrote about really meaningful stuff that impacted me as student and person and drove me towards medicine
- Recommendations- AP Biology teacher and Advanced Engineering Teacher 7/10
- No internships research or anything but a decent amount of community service from school, local library, and mosque
I am not very smart and am a horrible test taker (just a hard worker) so don’t think only the geniuses get their first choice major. UT has been my dream school since 9th grade and I can’t wait to attend. I hope everyone on here gets in. Best of LUCK!!! Hook em’
Feel free to ask any more questions.
Congrats @IbnHooligan
@LikeThis My S got that email the day he got his major. When you log in it still says " in review"? On his at the top of the screen In the banner it said “admitted into the Red McCombs School of Business” Check all your other tabs- scholarships and honors programs to see if something changed there. I’d call them tomorrow if you still can’t tell.
@gettingschooled Thanks for the clarification. I got my major about a week ago, but the email says they uploaded something within the last 24 hours. All my honors and scholarship application still say “in review”- nothing seems to have changed.
A couple of my friends seem to have just gotten into honors programs, though. I’ll probably call UT tomorrow and ask.
@LikeThis, my Son just got the same email as you and there doesn’t seem to be any change on MyStatus. He too is waiting LAH/PlanII, after getting his major last week, so we too are hopeful. Good luck.
Question: What is all this Plan II/ LAH stuff people have been mentioning? Never heard of it
Got into McCombs!
Has anyone heard anything back for engineering?
