Fall of 2016 Applicants

@liberalguy97 - according to last year’s thread- various Honors started hearing late November/December with ‘waves’ of admits into March.

Patience.

Although I am not expecting it, what if I was automatically admitted at 5.5%, but fall out of the top 8% by spring. Will they revoke my admissions?

No.

For anyone who turned it in by the October 15th deadline, what does your “MyStatus” show? Mine shows complete/on time, but a transcript got sent in late by my school, so I’m not sure which deadline they’re considering it “On time” for.

The honors recommended deadline is a “soft” deadline, so your application is most likely “complete/on time” for the UT deadline of December 1.

Thank you!

I got my acceptance to TAMU Engineering in December and UT (Cockrell School of Engineering) in February

@FloMoMom

A quick follow up, just because another parent asked me (and I’m no expert), basically you pay the $50 housing app fee, this holds your place in line, then you can wait to accept admission all the way until July 1st, still keeping your early place in line, then accept and pay just before July 1st, grab your preferred housing and you are all good? Thank you for your help! -psy

Anybody applying to McCombs, who’s not in the top 8%? Of course top 8 doesn’t mean you’ll get into McCombs, but it doesn’t hurt. My S has very good stats, recs, extracur, etc but not in top 10% and we’re sweating it here.

@psywar Not quite. Let me try again.

After your UT application is complete, you apply for on-campus housing and pay the $50 application fee. The date you apply for housing is the date UT housing will use when making room assignments so it’s important to apply as soon as possible after completing your UT application.

Admitted students have until May 1 to accept UT’s offer of admission. After you accept it (by paying an enrollment deposit), you are eligible to receive a housing contract. Then you accept the housing contract by paying another deposit. Then, you have until July 1 to submit your housing preferences. I think the deposits may be refundable until May 1 and possibly after that date, depending on the reason you cancel.

The catch is that Orientation registration will open sometime in the spring, usually early February or March. You can’t register for Orientation until you’ve accepted the UT offer of admission. Orientation is required and the sessions fill up fast, so you really can’t wait to register. That starts the process of deposits and contracts sooner rather than later.

I hope this explains the process a little better. If not, please let me know and I’ll try again.

@FloMoMom Thanks, you answered my questions. I truly appreciate your time helping me.

Hi, I have applied to BHP and Engineering Honors and submitted both of my apps on October 13th. When can I hear back at the earliest? I gave my BHP alumni interview 3 weeks ago!!

End of November? December? When is the earliest batch released?

Thanks in advance guys

Guys I have a question.

If I get rejected for my first major choice, does my application receive another consideration for my second-choice major or am I automatically rejected outright?

For some schools (e.g. University of California), the second major choice is just a formality and doesn’t mean a thing, and I would like to know whether the same holds true for Texas Austin.

Thanks,

@DaRaverLA If you do not get accepted for your first choice major you are then considered for your second choice major.

@DaRaverLA Some people choose equally competitive first and second choice majors and end up missing both. Because the majors are given based on the AI/PAI grid you could potentially fall below the line on both. Choosing Engineering as first choice and computer science as second would be an example of this. If your “score” is low, you may miss both and end up as UGS. Sometimes people interpret this as “they did not consider my second choice.” Hope that makes sense.

thanks guys for prompt replies. I am thinking about applying to Civil Eng for my first major and undecided liberal arts college for my second major. Would this be a good way to, say, minimize the likelihood of getting rejected?

Your strategy would probably minimize the likelihood of getting rejected, but also minimize the likelihood of getting into engineering. It’s very difficult to transfer in if you aren’t accepted now. Are you willing to take that risk? If not, you should probably reconsider your second choice major.

Hey guys, I requested for my counselor to send my transcript electronically earlier this week to a few schools. I haven’t submitted my application yet (I am planning on doing so on Sunday). One of my schools already received my transcript, leading me to believe that all of the transcripts were sent. If my application is submitted after UT receives my transcript, is there a chance my transcript could be lost and need to be resent or should it be fine?

FloMoMom, so are you implying that internal transfer from College of Liberal Arts into College of Engineering in sophomore year is virtually impossible?
