As an auto-admit, do you have to accept the acceptance before recieving a major decision?
@gettingschooled I emailed a counselor for UT admissions asking him what the term priority consideration meant for honors colleges. That’s where I found out about business.
Thanks though, but haven’t found out yet. Still crossing my fingers for neuroscience!
@affections No.
Do any non auto admits get admitted into COLA around this time of the year? Some people i know were not auto admits but admitted into the college of communications
@texangirl505, my son is Texas resident who is a non auto-admit. Yesterday he received notification through my portal that he had been accepted into COLA as a history major. My family was pleasantly surprised to get acceptance notification back so early; however, we thought that there was an outside chance because he also is applying for Liberal Arts Honors and we were told by UT Admissions that some applicants to honors programs might receive earlier notifications of admission decisions.
@Ven1999 My class rank is 31/809. ACT scores M 35, E 33, R 34, S 32. My E/W 31. UT uses your math and writing scores. So my Academic Index score was 3.81. For ECs Varsity (team captain and all district honors) and ECNL club soccer, YL and some math and science tutoring. I put a lot of effort into the essays and submitted three even though UT only scores two. I talked to an admissions counselor and she said UT would look at all three and score the best two. I submitted two recommendation letters. Good luck.
@K20903 Thanks a Lot…My class rank is 6/400. ACT score 33(First Attempt). M 33, E 28, R 34, S 36, W 24. Planning to take ACT again in FEB. I am a Junior now. I don’t know how to find my AI score. My GPA at the end of Junior year will be 4.78.
I have a Question…When you started working on Essays? When you applied the application? Any tips or suggestion pl…Thanks in advance
@Ven1999 your ACT score is good but you need to work on your English and writing. UT uses a formula to determine your academic index (AI). The AI is supposed to predict your first year GPA. It uses only your math and combined English/writing score.The is also a PAI which is your personal achievement index. It is based on your two essay scores, ECs and anything extra like first family member to go to college. In the search box for UT Austin query academic index and posts with the formula should come up. For the ACT I think I remember the AI formula to be -1.661+ (W x 0.045) + (1- HSR x 100) x 0.02+ (M x 0.06) + 0.1. Your HSR is 6/400. The 0.1 is a bonus if you take four math and science courses in HS which I am sure you will do. There is also a similar formula for the SAT.
For the PAI the max score is 6. 1 or 2 for each essay, 1 for ECs and 1 for the extra circumstance. The AI is the X axis and the PAI the Y. AI starts at 4.1 and goes to 2.8. PAI 2 to 6. So you want to be top left. So you can calculate your AI but the PAI is unknown.
I applied August 1 but, if I remember right did not get an acknowledgement until September so not sure if applying right away matters. I worked on my essays for about two weeks and then had a family friend of my parents who used to be an English professor review them. Everything I have read on CC says to put a lot of effort into the essays. I also applied to Engineering Honors. I have not gotten a decision on that but it may be why I got an early decision. I honestly was not expecting to hear anything until February. Last thing is I took three ACT math prep sessions of a hour each. There were some math problems on the test I had not seen before and it really helped when I took the test again. I went from a 30 to a 35. So you might consider a prep service for English and Writing.
@K20903 Thanks a Lot
Daughter accepted to biomedical engineering. Class rank 42/504. SAT 2270 with 800 math and 750 writing. (1550 for AI calculation.). Only wrote 2 essays. Average ECs. Average essays. Surprised and thrilled to get acceptance this early.
@Dallas14 When did her status changed from “in review” to “accepted”? Just wondering how often we should check the portal.
Congrats to those already accepted!!
I am sure status changed late yesterday afternoon. Just heard that others at her school were accepted this morning and checked status to find she was admitted.
Thanks!
Any McCombs acceptances who were non-auto?
Nothing here…
I’ve asked my admissions counselor and I always hear the same thing. I wanna hear what y’all think: was there really a “priority” deadline for LAH and Plan II? I applied a couple of days after 10/15 (10/21). Is that going to hurt my chances in anyway? Is there a possibility that i’d still hear back early?
I was. I’m OOS @chocopied
Is admission decision rolling out for ALL or just those applying for LAH and Plan2?
My daughter was accepted oos Monday to College of Communications.
