Fall Paper Application or Wait For Winter?

I am not a model CC transfer student because although I'm fairly intelligent (1400 old SAT score in high school), I never had any focus in school until recently since this is my third year. Right now I have a 2.9 GPA and I haven't completed my Math requirement yet. I have a lot of W's (some for Math) and two D's (one made up with a B, other in progress spring semester). Basically it looks like I have no chance at any UC, but I'm wondering should I even try to apply for a school that still has open majors for fall like UCR or wait till Winter applications where I can pull my GPA up to a 3.1, complete my Math class and fill out available TAG forms.

I want to major in Japanese or Asian Studies because most of my W's were for other majors I tried but didn't like. I am very poor so UC applications aren't easy to pay for, but I don't qualify for a fee waiver because I didn't qualify for the fee waiver when fall online applications were available.

And I do not want to go to a CSU for my own reasons. What should I do? I regret having a lack of focus early in my college career and I want to set things right.

don't worry you should at least get in to UCR or UCSC..

Eep. You and I are in exactly the same boat, so I'm not sure I could offer any decent advice. I'm personally waiting because of the fee. I'm also hoping to raise my GPA and make up a class that brought my GPA below 3.0.

I'd say apply now for UCR at least. Japanese majors and asian studies are never impacted and don't have a very competitive GPA requirement so I'd figure you could get in there. I talked to a UCI counselor at a college day at my CC and she said the GPA for the Japanese major was like a 2.79 and the average GPA of a Japanese major to UCLA was somewhere around 3.25! good luck :]

what CC do you go to btw? I'm a jap major also. Hoping I can get into a double major once i transfer though. Been taking Chinese too :)

Try UCR,UCSC, and UCM

I go to Cerritos College. I was thinking of double majoring, but I don't know how to apply for a double major while transferring.

^ you can't you have to wait till you're accepted there and then ask the people there for double majors opportunities.

Thanks for that piece of information :)

I have another question. I was looking at the Japanese majors prep at Assist.org for UCI and it said "This major does not require completion of prerequisites for admission as a transfer student." It still lists the requirements and the only one I'm missing is History which I took Economics instead to satisfy the IGETC.

So can I still apply for transfer even though I'm missing History? I just want to double check.

With a 2.9 GPA and the proper requirements completed I encourage you to apply to UC Davis if interested. The only concern I have is the missing mathematics requirement. Although not a guarantee, for the last couple of years we have admitted students with a 2.8 or higher with all UC minimum eligibility requirements completed by the end of the spring term (with the exception of our selective majors; Japanese not being one of them).
